2. Presumably John Boehner.

He's the Majority Leader.

If Hastert resigns before the election. Which it seems likely that he'll do.

11. I'm not convinced
While I think Hasturd is going to be under incredible pressure to resign quickly so they can put this matter "back in the closet"(being a gay man I can use the closet reference) and off TV screens, I think Hastert is enough of a "stay the course" kind of whale to refuse to resign until after the selection process is over. I hope I'm wrong but I have my doubts. I think the fact Boehner is not supporting Hasturd but rather pointing out what should have been done is a good sign. Clearly Boehner would love to be Speaker of the House and in the current political climate I think there is a good chance the Dems will re-capture the House. But the very fact he isn't lining up behind Hasturd is a good sign, a good sign indeed.

4. Vote
Since the speaker of the house is always from the majority party the republican representatives will vote for a replacement. Boehner does not automatically take over. And with his connection to this scandel and cover up he probably would not get the votes.

6. Since they are not in session now, how can they vote? And when they DO co
come back to Washington, it will be as the minority party.

10. Actually, the speaker
is the one that gets the most votes from the membership of the house. Assuming that Hastert, Boehner, et al., are no longer voting, the speaker could actually be Pelosi.

Ok, I can dream. LOL

5. I think BoneHead gets it.
Which explains why he's fingering Hastert. Machiavellian bastard.

7. Pelosi
Whatever he does, he's toast and so is the republican party.

8. Sensenbrenner was one who stood behind him at press conference
I'm wondering if that's an indication of his position in R's notion of succession.

13. the conservatives' suggestion was Hyde
The concept would be that Hastert resigns as speaker, the House, which has not adjourned sine die, is called back into session for a special one day session to select a new speaker. The repubs select Hyde, who is retiring at the end of the year, to act as speaker until the new Congress convenes. At that point, a new speaker would be elected, hopefully by the Democratic majority.
