Foley's Defense - Will It Really Appeal to the Base?
So what's the scorecard so far:
1) He's gay.
2) He's a drunk.
3) He was allegedly abused by some clergyman.

Does this strike anyone else as nothing more than a really lame attempt to mollify the Repub base? Their biggest fears, realized? Sure they'll spin it, but they always do. Why are we continuing to fight their battles for them?

November 7th isn't about the hearts and minds of the Freepers. We will never ever win them. You only get rid of backwash by washing the glass. It's about the hearts and minds of the great middling mass of "Independents". So let's go get them.

Is it such a heretical suggestion that we run with this? Republicans bring drunks to the House floor to have cybersex during votes! Drunken Republican lawmakers gone wild!

and not vote. Their "outrage" waned as gas prices fell, so we get no help there. The base is terrified that the big, bad libruls will take over, so they'll be voting in droves -- Karl will see to that. The onus is on us.

The fundies forgave Dim Son for the alcoholism. I don't know their collective stance on forgiving alleged abuse, but if from a clergyman (or any person in a position of authority), I imagine they'd be pretty forgiving.

4. I think that very soon, even the blind will see
Foley behind the curtain of that obvious lame wiz of an excuse!

Guess he wants to play victim.....but what he forgot is that Republicans don't have no pity!

5. But they all share that victim mentality, don't they?
They need guns because they think they'll be victims of a crime. They need wars because they think they'll be victims of terrorist attacks. They need fences because they think they'll be victims of Mexicans taking their jobs. The list goes on and on and on.

Which just reminded me of an excellent Nation article entitled "A Nation of Victims" (!).

7. Good point! Yes, as they victimize others, they tell themselves
that they are the victim. We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out,
but Anyone buying that Okey-Doke is a dope though!
