Straining to hold the party together five weeks from Election Day amid unfolding revelations about the case, Mr. Hastert and his leadership team held a conference call with House Republicans on Monday night and heard blunt advice and criticism from participants who pressed for further action to reassure voters.

“This is a political problem, and we need to step up and do something dramatic,” Representative Ray LaHood of Illinois said afterward, adding that he had proposed abolishing the Congressional page program.

Okay, so I'm tinfoily, but it makes me nervous that the Republicans feel the need to "do something" to take the spotlight off this scandal.

Who the hell are they for? Overly dramatic, hyperbole? Possibly but after that vote last week on the torture bill nothing would surprise me from these guys....

3. I would bet that was some CYA conference. I can

just see all the finger pointing and listen to them quarreling among themselves. Foley's name probably did not even arise. It was all political and how they can maintain leverage over the next election.

4. That's right it is the Pages that are the problem

Let's just get rid of the Pages and the problem is solved...Isn't this just an open admission that GOP Congressmen can not keep their hands off the young boys? If you can't control your lust just eliminate the temptation... Solid GOP thinking...
