36 years ago I raised my right hand and swore an oath ...
to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC", and to "bear true faith and allegiance to the same". Today I am watching enemies of the Constitution on C-Span, as they attempt to eviscerate that document. I will not violate my oath! I will do everything in my power to ensure that these bastards pay. I'm talking to YOU, John Warner! Take your so-called "moderate" credentials and shove them up your ass. YOU, Lindsey Graham! Your credibility on legal matters is toast. YOU, Cornyn! (Although we already know that you're an idiot). YOU, Saxby Chambliss, you contemptible, chicken-hawk piece of shit. Game on, ass holes.

3. The easy way out would be to say "I'm too fucking old."
But I'm just not ready to give up quite yet. I love this country. Every adult male member of my family going back to the 1700s has served in the armed forces, and I can't let these fuckers corrupt what is right and good about our country.

Then later Officers in the Revolution, enlisted in the Civil War, WW-II, Nam, and then me riding a sub during the Cold War.

This is the first time in my experience that I see things headed into domestic violence. Those survivalists may have had the right idea.

Edit: I swore it 28 years ago.

9. Hasn't been as long for me, just 15 years when I was in that small room in
the MEPS station raising my right hand and giving the same oath. I still consider myself bound to it to this very day as well. The fact that torture is even an issue makes me wonder if this is the same country I swore that oath to.

10. I was having a conversation on another board ...
or website and one of the bushites got angry at me and others because we were discussing bushco and his failures. This person started making threats and saying if anything happens to their president they would destroy the liberals and asked us guess who would win? This was due to an article posted about the movie concerning bush. He was claiming that there would be a civil war between liberals and conservatives and he was saying in so many words that they would destroy libs. This so called conservative is always posting about religion and his christianity and he got very angry when I told him that wasn't the christian thing to do...Lol

24. Too true
I raised my hand 28 years ago. What were all the wars and death (both military and civilian) for? I've walked through Arlington and am in awe of the magnitude of the sacrifice. This old vet sits with tears in my eyes and says NO MORE! We have to do this not for ourselves. We have to do this for our children and grandchildren and generations yet unborn. Let them never say about us, where were you? MLK showed us how. With mass media looking on, let them beat us in the streets.Let them render us. Let them make excuses about why torture and rendition are the only options. For those who can't march, ok. It's ok to be afraid. To be afraid for your home, your job, your livelihood. Do whatever you can do as best you can. But FDR said we have nothing to fear but fear itself. Charity begins at home and spreads abroad. There is no charity here in the US. It's every person for themselves. Can't make it? Not my problem. Can't get health care, not my problem. No longer are we our brothers' keeper. Is this the world we all envisioned? The world torn by religious and political strife? The world torn by hatred of the "other"? Remember, for all of their supposed "power" there are more of us than them. They can't kill us all. Who would do the work that enriches their coffers? When they try to squeeze through the eye of that needle, I don't think they'll make it. Selah.

I wonder what they have in a .223 ... and perhaps a 20 guage short-stock pump ("camper's special"). I've qualified using the M1, the M14, the M16, and the M60. I doubt I can get any of those, but anything's better than throwing rocks and bottles.

I took that oath twice - once in July 1961 when I entered the USCGA and again in March 1968 when I was drafted into the U. S. Army. It looks like my Expert Army Weapons Qualification will come in handy - even though I haven't picked up a weapon since November 1969.

Basic and AIT at Ft. Polk (Class of '68) might just, once again, come in handy.

34. 21 years for me
Like my mother and father and brother before me and my daughter after me.

I received a pamphlet about putting someone on the Women's service memorial. I had been meaning to get my mom on there, along with myself and daughter. Three generations of females in the military. I found myself questioning what my military service meant and the service of my mother and daughter to end up with the country this fkd up.

37. You guys.
Where are you? You are the generation of my fathers, the one who is supposed to have
left uz with a peaceful world without nuclear weapons, and now it looks like our
great great great great great great great great great great grandchildren will
still be suffering for the original sin they inherit from uz.

There was no constitution to defend; it was but a wish in the hearts of spoiled
men seeking wealth and self gratification.

And my generation too, has failed, and sold out entirely to the neocrim lie that
somebody else will sort out our mess, maybe jezzzus will do it.

Then again, nobody is responsible.

namaste,
