ACTION REQUIRED: Call your Democratic Senators and ask for a FILIBUSTER
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 10:43 AM by AndyA
to be placed on the Detainee Bill.

Capitol phone number: 866-808-0065 - ask to be connected to your Senator's office. It only takes one Senator to place a hold on this unconstitutional bill. That will stop it dead in its tracks!

We must do this to preserve our democracy and protect the Constitution.

Edit: To change title.

1. The bill is on the floor
You can no longer do a hold on it that asks for it not to go to the floor.

2. Why didn't they do something to stop it before it got to the floor?
What is the opposing party doing? They sure aren't opposing!

3. So what are the options at this point? Filibuster and that's it?
Our democracy is hanging by a thread!

4. There is more than that.
This bill is blatantly unconstitutional. We go to court.

We fight. If not us, who?

6. You can't take it to court
unless it passes and you can find a party injured by the legislation.

If it does pass you can be sure that it will be in court very quickly.

7. I don't think that's correct
I always thought it was precisely while on the floor that debate cannot be restricted unless cloture is voted on by 60% to end the debate.

8. I don't understand all the nuances of our government, but it would
seem to me there must be something the Dems can do at this point. Whatever it is, they'd better DO IT!!
