So. I hear there's a debate about torturing people
and whether or not that is ok. Whether or not it should be used to obtain information in the "war on terra".

HAS THIS NATION GONE COMPLETELY INSANE?

Does anyone with half a conscience actually condone torture?

Imagine yourself in a place. A very bad place. A place where you are surrounded by bars and stone walls. Imagine that those who have the keys have the power to TORTURE you. Pain. Unending. Unbelievably scary.

Do you want others to be treated this way?

It's absolutely insane that this discussion even has to be had. I've tried to avoid all the threads about this, but have to express my humble opinion.

Some people are obviously insane. And, they have control of every aspect of this government.

There is no grey here. If one believes that torture, in any way, should be used to gather "intelligence", then they are god damned crazy.

My thoughts.

1. Half a conscience? Ask McCain, Graham, Warner, dimson, Cheney,
Rummy, Rice, and the rest of the usual suspects. Conscience isn't entering into it, or they are bereft of one.

4. Go read my blog piece that goes with it if you like the pics...
You will have to go to:

www.brainshrub.com/blog/121

and then browse to the very earliest article because for some reason you can no longer go directly to the article with the link I gave.

Thanks,

6. And there's this from Star Wars.com:

http://www.starwars.com/databank/droid/ito/

Darth Vader:"And now Princess we shall the discuss the location of your hidden rebel base..."

Again in Empire Strikes Back Darth Vader tortures, this time not for information but just to draw Luke Skywalker to Han Solo's pain through the "force"... remember:

"They didn't even ask me any questions" - Han Solo, ESB.

And in Return of the Jedi, the Emperor sadistically tortures Luke Skywalker apparently for the pleasure of it in the climactic scene with "lightning bolts" of some sort...

Torture is also talked of in "Casablanca", and shown in movies like "Marathon Man" remember the line "Is it safe?"... how about in Indiana Jones - "Let me show you what I'm used to" - Major Toht. How about the sadistic Nazi prison guard in Schindler's List?

As I pointed out in my piece, only Nazis, imperial storm troopers, and other villians in black hats torture people.

We should protest in front of these people in storm trooper and Nazi costumes (and perhaps as Satan) with signs that say "Nazis for Torture" or "Darth Vader Approves" or "You're all going to Hell" (Satan) just to shame them into retreat. Why not? Maybe we could get George Lucas to do a parody of Bush, Satan, Major Toht, Cheney and Darth Vader in a board room planning their torture or comparing notes...it would be a great Saturday Night Live skit...

Doug D.

(Of course how do you get Dick Cheney and Darth Vader together in the same room? Isn't that like getting Superman and Clark Kent or Batman and Bruce Wayne together in the same room?)

5. Torture Bill
Hello Everyone,

Please write your House of Representative and Senator for
your state. Please let them know how serious the Torture
bill is. Let them know we do not want it to pass, and we
will keep it in mind when we go to the polls in November.
Think of how our soldiers will be treated in future wars. It
is bad enough they are fighting a war they should not be in
now.

7. the point that i have not heard mentioned at all is that
one of the (ultimate) reasons we were told we needed to take down hussein was because he tortured his people. i realize we do not torture our own (yet) but that seems to be a minor point. torture is wrong, period . . . whether your name is hussein or bush or cheney.
