Guard Gutted and Hung Out To Dry
for the last three years, most National Guard units have gone to Iraq, and taken most of their gear with them. When the troops come home, the weapons and equipment usually stays behind, either to be used by the unit replacing them, or to replace stuff destroyed, or worn out, during operations. While this makes sense from a logistical point-of-view, it doesn't really work if the troops don't get replacement equipment after they return home. Many units have not. Some have been disbanded as a result, but most are told to wait, and make do with whatever bits and pieces they were able to scrape together.

1. So basically when the next Natural disaster occurs in the US
Our national guard units will be unable to function...

Sadly, what I am waiting for is for the administration to destroy the Coast Guard....they will pull them members and put them in as boots on the ground....it's coming...

3. They don't want them to be able to function as units.
Not for what might be coming. The guard are the People's Militia, it was one way of disarming the individual States. Remember when all the Governors defied Bush and refused to allow him to Federalize the Guard? Retribution...

5. Let's face it...* has had the NG in his sights since he took office....
He must have had some bad days in the TANG...so if we won't allow him to nationalize the guard, or force them to be under the auspices of the Reg. Army on regular bases...he will render them useless...which still accomplishes what he wants...IF he can't control them...then he will assure that we don't have their protection either...

WE MUST NOT ALLOW THIS to continue...why??? because those NG units are each state and Governor's only defense against any enemy, foreign or DOMESTIC...and rapid response in case of a natural disaster...

I am appalled to think some NG units have been disbanded because of returning from Iraq with no equipment...(they shouldn't have even been there as long as there are regular army sitting at home)their state gov'ts need to get in gear and do something about this...That guard is their only protection....
