Al and Randi
What is it with Randi and Al? She was dissing him on her show yesterday and then today it seemed like she was doing everything she could to embarass him. Is there animosity there? And was she F'd up? One could almost make the case that she was messed up during the interview. What did others think? Was I just hearing stuff that wasnt really there?

1. No she just was just being "Randi"
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 11:53 AM by ShortnFiery
Those of us who like her take the brash comments with the ultra-high IQ because she is entertaining.

I tend to agree with Randi that Al doesn't take them on, but that's his personality and approach.

I think there may be some resentments but they are professionals and will not air their dirty laundry to us. I hope that they work it out. :-)

2. Randi has to learn when not to say what she is thinking.
I agree with a lot of her thoughts but she tends to push
the edge a little bit too.

12. And Al needs to learn that it's fine to be polite
to people who are civilized. But it doesn't work with people that want to kill you.

3. She always does that. I don't understand why.
It sure doesn't seem helpful.

4. It Really Annoys Me When She Does That
Al had a lot to do with even being able to start up AAR and he works for free -- she seems very bitchy and egotistical when she does that, IMO.

5. Al works for free?
He was complaining last week he hadn't been paid. Public documents list him as AAR's highest paid on air employee.

8. He's Gone For Long Periods Of Time Paycheck-Free
Just to get it off the ground and more recently joked "there's a cash-flow problem; no cash is flowing to ME!" It's true that he gets to promote his projects and HIMSELF actually since he has an eye to run for politics but he's done a lot for Dems and a lot for AAR and I don't think she should go out of her way to diss him like she does. It's unnecesary and a real turn off to me (like when she shouts down callers.) I probably agree with her views more than the more centrist Al but I like listening to him better; she gives me a headache!

9. He does not work for free
there was big talk recently about the contract he just signed being over a million bucks - I think he worked for "free" for a while in the beginning - but even then I bet they paid him back as cash flow improved....

6. Go Randi - its just her. I like it because Al is not
the best person for getting out the progressive/liberal message. He looks for the joke and breaks up the message. Also, his cadence is completely wrong for radio. In other words, he is generally neither funny or particularly informative in my opinion.

10. They are a pair of um, healthy egos
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 12:23 PM by SheWhoMustBeObeyed
Randi came to AAR with years of radio experience and a legion of fans. Al came to AAR with years of TV, movie and publishing experience and a legion of fans. But Al was a radio noob and when AAR started up, Randi resented the near-invisibility of all the other hosts, especially her.

I listened to her early on and it was constantly, "I didn't have to come here, I was a star in Florida...my Florida ratings beat Limbaugh every day, who else here can say that...my studio sucks, why is there only one studio that has good equipment...Al Gore/Michael Moore/whoever was here at AAR today but did anybody bother to introduce me to him?...he doesn't even mention me at the end of his show - that's what you're supposed do, say 'stay tuned for the show'...I'm the only one here with any radio experience but does PR pay any attention to me? No."...etc etc

So Al somewhat stiltedly began plugging her show. But on Election Day 2004, a bunch of the AAR hosts including Randi did remotes from around the country all day long. Randi didn't think she got included enough (she probably didn't) and blamed that on Al's sidekick Katherine Lanpher who was in Boston with others. I may be getting details wrong, but Randi was quite bitter and complained about it long and loud on the air. And Al stopped mentioning her.

Her behavior however warranted was unprofessional - and really uncomfortable to listen to. I don't know what she did this week because I don't listen anymore.

11. Al Outclasses Her Bigtime....She Just Screeches To The Choir.
I don't listen to her anymore either, although politically I'm closer to her than Al, she's got a Rush-type screeching ego, I know of at least 2 people who really opened their minds from appearances Al made, I think his approach is much more effective.

14. I so want to listen to Randi but her whining just made it too hard.
Al runs me crazy with his Lush Limpballs buddy constantly on the show and his silly comedy skits but he gets the best guests and asks the questions you will never hear asked on MSM. His running list of people who appear each week is outstanding.

I just recently found Stephanie Miller and I listen on my computer every morning. She is a gem and I really like her show. Funny as hell and very entertaining while hitting the repugs hard. (Her father ran as the VP on the Goldwater ticket back in the day. She said her father would be aghast at what the repug party has become - aren't we all.)

I just find Randi a little thin-skinned and somehow she has gotten the idea that yelling over a person qualifies as a reasonable discussion. Often she is dead on right but it loses something in transmission when she doesn't allow either side to say anything coherently. She was a pit bull on Dobbs with all the facts, figures and arguments on her side but came off as an unhinged wacko.

The libs are going to have to find a way to present their points without resorting to the repugs method of "discussion" of out yelling everyone. I don't have a clue how you do that in five or six minutes but it needs to be done. That said, I am so glad that Randi is on our side - just imagine if that brain and wit was on the side of the Coultergeist group!

17. Is this a diss Randi thread?
Not everyone on the same side or in the same workplace have to like each other.

I get the impression it's just friendly bantering.
