"Why haven't the Democrats been able to capitalize on Bush's misfortune?"
AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!

It's a damned good thing I don't leave bricks lying around my studio, or my teevee would have been toast ages ago. Here we go again...CNN leads off with the subject line of this post, and I blow a gasket!

LISTEN UP, CNN! As if you don't know...the reason the Democrats haven't been able to capitalize on Bush's misfortune is because CNN and their ilk are doing stupid-ass stories about "Why can't the Democrats gain ground on Bush?" instead of doing stories on Bush himself, and his illegalities and amoral policies. Every Democrat in DC can ring the Washington Monument, arms linked in unity, and call for Bush's impeachment while singing out a new plan for America, and if CNN is going to put Bay Buchanan on instead, what's the point?

It's self-fulfilling. We can't get traction because the GOP-controlled media is only running stories about how we can't gain traction, not about the law-breaking president. If he'd only get his scepter waxed, we might have a real scandal to talk about!

1. one acronym: DLC
that's the reason.

With dems like Clinton, LIEberman, Biden as 'opposition', there's nothing holding the neocon thugs back.

2. Exactly!
Dems are far more unified in many ways and the media refuses to discuss it.

But, they sure had plenty of airtime for the War on Christmas to shore up Bush's base.....yet again.

3. Because they allow the Republicans to set the
agenda and react rather than act proactively. People are hurting out here but the Dems in power don't know it because they listen to their well off friends and lobbyists.

4. You're so right.
If it doesn't involve sex in some iteration or other, it just plain ain't interesting to most murkins. And of course, the aftershocks of Bill Clinton's BJ will be rumbling for years. The republicans can be directly or indirectly responsible for the slaughters of thousands, but as long as they don't commit fellatio (sodomy, masturbate in public, you name it) they're viewed as good solid citizens.

I have always believed that's been the secret to Nancy Grace's success - just listen to the way she highlights "sex offender" or "sex abuser" on her show. That kind of titillation is almost a "porn tease" for huge numbers of TV viewers.

We had a great example of it here in VA. A Repub. congressman from VA Beach had been in office several terms, was considered unstoppable - but lo and behold he went and registered on a gay sex board, got outed, and had to resign. Sadly, of course, because of the gerrymandered district and its demographics, he was replaced by another Repub.

:) PLEASE EXCUSE ME I AM NEW
We can not capitalize because they lay traps and our legislators fall in the traps.take the troop early withdrawl. they set the trap we fell in it.THEY KNEW THAT THE TROOPS WERE COMING BACK EARLY.so senator Murtha looks unpatriotic.i am 58 live in the south and see it in every election. we fight each other, we fight over polls, news casts, and pass our live away watching every 24 hour news chanell that exists.all these news casters do is laugh at us and write a book, give a speech for big bucks, give an endorsement for big bucks and go to the country club with each other. they really hate us!!!!!

8. Because we have a worthless media that calls Bush's crimes "misfortunes".
That's why. They answered their own question.

Still, the premise itself is flawed. People are pissed at Bush and want him out. I wouldn't expect corporate media shills to mention that, though.

9. Because of about 20 years of Republican propoganda.
The right wingers and their media magnate buddies have been telling the American people for about 20 years that Democrats are unable to manage the federal budget, that Democrats aren't able to properly defend America, and various other lies. Today, the Republicans are demonstrating that they are all the bad things they have always claimed Democrats to be, but their propoganda campaign has clouded the issue for the American people. We have to cut through the fog.

13. I never understood this. It is a catch 22.

What the hell do they mean when they say capitalize? How should we have capitalized? I mean, there have been no elections yet (and the local ones here and there we've fared pretty well in), and polls show a majority want dems to control congress. We've shut down most of the repubs agenda this year and have little by little been exposing the culture of corruption that exists on the right, so just what the fuck is it they want to see by us capitalizing?

I just don't understand the comment. Just how do we capitalize prior to the 06 elections? What would suffice for these news hacks in order to say we have capitalized? What meets that criteria, the dems storming into the white house and holding bush hostage? Ok ok, as much as I'd like to see that it isn't really realistic.

I think we've capitalized fine so far, and know they are going to storm forward even more agressively this coming year. So fuck you CNN.

14. Because The Republican Party is a bone fide criminal enterprise
at this point.

They have the media cowed, the public misinformed, and they are now the equivalent of a major crime family.

At least some people have the guts to say so:

Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 05:42 PM by librechik
we don't kick them when they're down--we give them a hand up when they're down, and we don't have the stomach to do what the Pukkkes do everyday without thinking--kick the other guy in the nuts.

They should stop expecting that from us--we are different.

maybe that just makes us losers. I don't know yet. seems like we've done ok, they just learned how to cheat better in the last 5 years!

16. Very true. The only reason why there have beeb any inroads against
the Repuke message is because so many horrors took place and being neocons - they compouded much.

But they still try as hard as possible to pressure and shut down the news cycle. Unfavorable stories must go away. Well if you control half the pundits and tell them they are not allowed to comment on the neocon incompetence more than once - while your repeated message gets out every day "victory, victory, victory".

Dems are doing great.

18. Because of cable media. Fox news kills MSNBC and CNN in the ratings
so their instinct is to emulate them to get the same audience. If only they knew if they truly did IMPORTANT and truthful reporting, they would get the audience they're looking for. I aso believe they are intimidated by the WH and the extreme right groups.

If you close your eyes, you'd swear it was a pitbull. In reality, it is a neurotic creature, that simply can't really deliver in a scrap.
