Pig braves tasers to escape slaughterhouse
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/14838640/?GT1=8506

I bet more animals in slaughterhouses would like to do this :-/!

GREEN BAY, Wis. - A pig on the lam from a trip to the butcher withstood Taser shots from police officers and eluded authorities for more than an hour after wandering onto Green Bay's major highway Wednesday night.

The 150-pound pig was spotted by a passing driver on U.S. 41 at 6 p.m. Wednesday night, Green Bay Police Lt. Todd LePine said. The animal reportedly went into traffic several times, creating a hazard, he said.

Officers located the pig about 7 p.m. and made two attempts to subdue it with a stun gun, he said, but it fled both times after pulling out the Taser probes.

The wild run was a success for the pig, at least for now.

“The pig’s not going to slaughter anytime soon,” Robinson told the Press Gazette. “It was shot with tranquilizers, and what does that do to a pig? I’ll just have to give it some thought. The pig’s future at present is unknown.”

4. I hope the pig is spared. He wants to live so much.
I saw a bird die on Wednesday evening. It was laying in the lane of a Bank of America drive thru. At first, I couldn't tell what it was from my office window. I could see something fluttering, but had no idea it was a bird at the time.

A few minutes later, I realized the wind wasn't blowing enough to cause that much movement, and I went to another office window to get a better view. I then realized it was a bird, flapping one wing in a vain attempt to take flight.

I have no idea what happened to it, but before I could do anything to help, I noticed it had stopped moving. It made me sick to realize I had been watching the bird's last few moments alive, trying to take flight and survive. I wouldn't have been able to do anything anyway, but it still bothered me.

My emotions seem to be closer to the surface lately, and I think much of it has to do with the state of the world we're in today. When a little dead bird is still on your mind two days later, that says a lot.

5. Don't tell me that poor pig didn't know what was going
happen to it. We don't give animals enough credit for intelligence.

20. Me too. You won't believe a billboard I saw yesterday.
It was for a local "Rib Fest" here in Indiana. It had a drawing of a cute pig (disturbing for obvious reasons) wearing a bandana that said "I love pork" (even more disturbing).

I'm definitely not an "in your face" kind of vegetarian, but I thought the billboard was disgusting.

6. Pigs are smarter than dogs.
What a brave fella - he knew his fate. I hope he is spared the slaughterhouse once he'd finally caught. :-(

17. Pigs ROCK!
I have had the honor of knowing several amazing pigs, who were smart, loving, and damn good company.

It is my biggest desire that one day, we move beyond eating our fellow creatures and just let them be. Just like in ST:NG, all fake animal "meat", all the time.
