What kind of teacher would drive a hummer?
I've always respected out teachers and considered them to be smarter than the average bear. I know they've got one of the toughest jobs going, one that takes a special calling to do.
So imagine my surprise when I step out for a little sun on my bones and parked in front of our middle school down the street is a brand spanking new hummer.
I don't know how they can afford to drive this monstrosity, even with the dropping gasoline prices, and what message are they sending the youngsters?

.. an elementary teacher at my son's school has one - still has the paper tags on it

Growing up with my mom and 3 aunts and my dad as teachers in the public school system, I learned early on that there are more than a few teachers who do the job for whatever reason besides needing the money, and indeed, many teachers are not as "progressive" or "leftist" or "liberal" as they should be - heck, some even oppose raises and unionization (my parents' forte' was unionizing and union-building)

Just $.02 from South Alabama.

(edited to show that I do indeed have a grasp of grammar)

14. Thanks!
I've actually been a member for years, but some things are just too rich to pass without comment ;).

and my relatives thank you, too - they're all retired now, and immensely enjoying their "freedom" from what they say becam an increasingly restrictive, "mis-educational" system.

17. The majority of the teachers
in my daughter's school have Bush stickers on their SUVs & openly talk about how great he is, and during the election, several of them talked about how bad Kerry is and would argue with the students if they spoke up, pretty much just embarrassing them into not speaking up about it again... I really didn't think they were supposed to force their opinions on the kids in school... The school had quite a few layoffs this past year due to budget cuts -- unfortunately a couple of the worst ones weren't included in the bunch.
