not be giving Halloween candy to children in Disney character costumes" be:

I am ending the poll, which was really a thought experiment, with this comment. Almost everyone says "too nasty." You know goddamn well that if the shoe were on the other foot the Republicans would do it and would give the kids little Bibles instead...

2. Let's not penalize the kids now.
They aren't aware of the things that Disney are doing.

The parents on the other hand...

Mark.

9. When I was a kid, we'd each hit a different block, figure out which
houses were giving out the nickel size (huge then) candy bars and visit them repeatedly in different costumes.

10. True enough.......
And if they did that I guarantee those kids would hate them with a purple passion for it.

Incidently, if you want to know who the kids really don't like around my neighborhood, all you have to do is walk around late on Halloween night. They have ways of indicating which houses contain people that have pissed them off.

8. Don't punish kids because they're idiots.
Halloween is a kid's holiday. Don't ruin it for them. That's just silly.

15. It's a great idea, if
you put the sign up for a week or 2 in advance.

Kids won't understand the politics, but parents do, and that's who buys the costumes. If they know 2 weeks ahead of time, they have no right to complain. Maybe they will see it and buy a different costume.
