Congressional Democrats call on Scholastic to keep ABC's 9/11 docudrama 'out of schools'
09/07/2006 @ 1:40 pm
Filed by Ron Brynaert

Congressional Democrats will be holding a press conference late Thursday afternoon which will call on Scholastic to keep ABC's docudrama The Path to 9/11 "out of schools," RAW STORY has learned. "Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY-28), Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee, will today be joined by Rep. Bill Pascrell (NJ-8), a member of the Homeland Security Committee and a former high school teacher, to call for Scholastic Inc. and ABC to keep the upcoming, and already challenged, docudrama The Path to 9-11 out of America's classrooms," said a press release sent out by Rep. Slaughter's office.

"Scholastic is currently planning on shopping the docudrama to as many as 100,000 teachers, and has already produced lesson plans containing questionable information and analysis," the press release continued. The press conference is scheduled for 4:15 PM today, and will take place on the terrace of the Cannon House Office Building.

"ABC has a responsibility to make clear that this film is not a documentary, and does not represent an official account of the facts surrounding the September 11th attacks," Congresswoman Slaughter said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The watchdog website Media Matters contains links to the "teaching materials" that schools will be provided with. "By pushing material with misleading information to students of all ages, ABC and Scholastic are engaging in the worst kind of political propagandizing and misinformation campaign," wrote Media Matters President David Brock. "It appears they are actively seeking to misinform our children on recent historical events that have shaped our world. Such behavior from a major network like ABC is not only unprecedented; it is highly inappropriate and deeply troubling."

2. You know I have a dream
My child starts school on September 11th. I have a dream that someday there will be decent leaders with R's behind their name. Decent Republicans that care about the truth. That care about our children. That care about more than politics and themselves. I commend all our Dems that fight for the truth.

Where are the Republicans? Truth is meaningless to them.

3. Scholastic has just marked themselves as PROPAGANDISTS...
They have sullied their longstanding reputation as an Educational Resource. Hisorically, they will be forever tied to propaganda, fascism and this evil cabal.

Actions have consequences.

4. i posted this earlier - I used to work for Scholastic
I would post this in a stand alone thread, but my post count is not high enough to start threads. Among many things (treating workers very badly, low low low wages for all except managers, using mostly temp and most likely illegal immigrants, to keep wages low, I am talking about the warehouse here) they publish and push on our kids the most red, conservative bs masquerading as history. This is the not the first time they have slandered Clinton. Just a few examples.....

In the book fair division, Separate biographies are published for all Repub presidents, including Reagan and Bush, geared towards the youngest of readers. They are displayed prominently at the bookfairs and at the warehouse sales. No such biographies are published for any Democrat president.

They have several other books regarding presidents, some for younger and some for older (chapter) books. All of the books I examined talked of the "Clinton scandals", as in "the Clinton presidency was marred by scandals" and other very negative phrases. Reagen , on the other hand is treated like he is a God, no mention of scandals in anything written about him. No mention of contras, or anything else in the most scandal ridden presidency of our times.

I no longer work at Scholastic, otherwise i could walk up and down the isles of the warehouse picking out the subtle propaganda, all things (snarl sneer) Dem's bad, all things repub good.

5. Any public funds (like pensions) invested in Scholastic
(SCHL on Nasdaq)should make some inquiries to protect their interests.
