I think you are ignorant and superstitious. Too many of you are led by Falwells.

And have a large voting block in the most powerful nation on earth. That scares the shit out of me.

falls into that category.

I just see things differently than you here. I don't believe that Jesus is going to come down from the clouds in the next 500 years.

52. I have no problem with science and Christianity being completely
compatible.

I have found that believing makes me feel better and stronger personally. And it feels truthful to me.

It also has saved my life (literally) whereas science has no answer for the problem of alcoholism.

25. More than if it were Mother Theresa. If you said "I follow
Christianity" or "I live a Christian life" I would be less concerned than when you say "I call myself a Christian." Bush calls himself a Christian, Cheney calls himself a Christian. See what I mean?

7. I'm scared of those who use Christianity as a tool to manipulate
and I'm disappointed in them as well.

I'm also disappointed in those that choose to put down Christianity every chance they get.

As a Christian, I'm not usually afraid of myself.

But I'm not perfect either.

27. Bingo!
I'm Christian, but I don't feel I have to declare that fact to others. My belief is between me and my God. I have learned to be very leery of business people, especially, who throw religion into their business conversations. For instance, I quit going to a hairdresser who had recently joined a radical church and it was "Praise the Lord!" or "God is good!" at the end of every sentence.

At the same time, she was trying to figure out how to get rid of an elderly lady who had been a long time customer, but was becoming a problem and taking more time than it was worth. God is good, eh? Not through that person.

36. i once took a job from a 'messianic jew'
he was so morally compromised that he apparently felt the need for TWO religions to compensate!

i quit that job after only seven weeks with a list of illegal things he asked me to do, corrupt business practices he engaged in, and generally poor executive decisions on his part.

it's the only job i ever quit without giving two weeks notice, and i couldn't have been more proud.

31. bingo. the key is when THEY bring it up.
i have known plenty of christians who are great people and and don't talk about religion unless asked. often these are geniune believers in the morals and ethics in the bible.

it's the ones who feel compelled to work it into every conversation who are the problem.

in short, the problem isn't christianity at all. it's the insecurity in trying to lord a claim of moral superiority over others; the evil in trying to shore up their moral credibility through group membership rather than through actions; the disrespect in trying to convert you from your own chosen beliefs.

54. I have a longer and deeper democratic party pedigree than most on DU
My uncle was a Freedom Rider who was friends with CHeney, Goodman and Schwerner.

My dad left the suburbs and went into newark to help stop the riots when they killed Martin.

I was at the I have a Dream SPeech.

I marched on Washington to protest the War in Vietnam.

My Mother was the state president of the League of WOmen Voters. SHe dropped that to help Start NOW.

I was in Groton with Marty Sheen when they were trying to put a Trident with 108 warheads out to see with the name "the Body of Christ"

I spent the better part of a year in the South, building houses for poor working african-americans.
I am a liberae l.. I am pro-peace...I am pro-choice...I am anti-bigotry in all its forms.

I am all these things because of my evangelical faith not in spite of it.

53. There you go. If any other business operated by selling a
product it never proved it had ever delivered to anyone, it would not have stayed in operation for 2,000 years. I don't care if people think that little elves live under my lawn and push up the blades of grass so I have to mow them so long as they leave me alone. This is the reason we have (had) both freedom of religion and separation of Church and State in this country. As soon as the theocracy takes over there will be all sorts of battles over whose religion is the true one and who are apostates. Count on it. It won't be pretty and the losers will not be happy.
