'I love my daddy' - Bindy (Steve Irwin's Daughter)
'I love my daddy' - Bindy

IT was the best Father's Day present Steve Irwin could have asked for – a moving tribute from his eight-year-old daughter telling the world how she loved him "very, very much."

In Irwin's last magazine interview, Bindi told the September edition of marie claire in it's Father's Day special just how much her dad meant to her: "I love that he's funny, he's entertaining and he's always there when I need him most.

"I'm proud to have a dad like that, who takes on conservation issues around the world.

"I love him very, very much."

For Irwin, the rare father-daughter interview and photo was so treasured he requested all photos from the shoot be sent to him – a series Bindi will now treasure forever.

While Irwin had knocked back previous interview requests, he agreed to the shoot as it was "something he and Bindi could do together," a spokeswoman for the magazine said.

9. I have a five year old daughter, also. A few months ago, I had
a cancer scare. I started thinking about my children and what would happen if I wasn't around. Then I started thinking, "What if my wife re-marries and my children call the new husband, 'Daddy.'"? Man...I lost it.

I feel bad for Steve Irwin's children -- they are going to miss their Daddy a lot.

10. Hope all is well with you now
My wife has parkinsons and has her moments when she worries about how our daughter will take it if she gets worse.

Every night she wants to snuggle with dadoo before bed I just melt, and sometimes think about what she would go through if I was gone. Stupid mental torture I know, but when I look at her I just can't help it when thoughts like that pop into my head.

If I live to be old enough to see her grow up and happy, then I can die a peaceful death :) otherwise, my ass is doing some serious haunting!

28. It is tear jerking but
MSM might interview some of the kids of soldiers killed by Bushcos illegal war. They loved their dads just as much.

18. the day I can't feel compassion for someone else's sorrow will be
a terrible day for me. I lost my father July 23rd and even though I am adult, it was the worst searing thing I ever faced. Imagine a child? You don't have to understand and you don't have to participate. Its human nature to give sympathy to those who suffer. If you don't care for that, fine. I just do and I don't care what anyone thinks about it. God bless Bindi Sue and Robert. I know *exactly* how you feel right now.

21. I feel compassion. I'm sorry Steve died.
I'm sorry that his kids will only have TV shows to remember their father.

I just find it sickening that these events are turned into fucking circuses that do nothing but exploit a tragedy for nefarious purposes. That's why it bothers me when people here make claims that people are heartless or unfeeling because they don't turn into blubbering wrecks everytime someone famous dies.

24. i don't think anyone has done that
i haven't seen anyone demand that people show a certain level of sympathy. it's more aimed at some of the horrible things being said about Irwin. a lot of them being lies.

i think the sadness to Irwin's death is partly because he wasnt really viewed as a famous person or star. but rather just the animal guy from Australia. i doubt many would want his autograph if they ever met him or brag about it as if it was some huge star. he was just a guy that taught us about animals and made it enjoyable.

it's almost like someone in your life that you know of but aren't close to personally suddenly dying. you also don't realize or think too much about what they did and how much you appreciate it until they die.

8. It's called Human Relations
And sharing in common things.

If it's not common to you, no need to hop in eh. To each their own.

People share a common sense of sadness, and sharing said sadness amongst friends is not bad. And it's now wallowing either.

Sympathy for others is a stringer trait in some then others, discussing that amongst fellow du'ers who feel the same isn't about throwing a pity party or wanting to grieve cause we are bored.

and for the record, I can feel the same about other stories more local and mundane (mundane to the rest of the world). And local reaction usually leads to discussion, raising funds or making donations, etc. When my X girlfriend's mom died of breast cancer it hit me hard. She was a fine lady. Hit the community hard there as well. I donated money to cancer society, people wrote letters to the local paper, etc.

17. I talked to a fellow DUer the other night
and he can't understand my depth of feeling and overall sadness about this tragedy.

I keep thinking about those kids...... most of us were in the delivery room along with Steve when they were born. He was just so.......so.... I don't know, overwhelmed with love and emotion during both their births.

Add to that the tragic way in which he died.

Niagra Falls here...............

What a beautiful and rare thing in a human being in the spotlight!
The man was never afraid of showing his heart.
Damn what others may think of us for doing the same!

23. they taped the births of their children
i think that's what Catwoman may be referring to here.

i saw it when they were having their first kid(Bindi). Irwin was so fascinated with everything and just so caring of his wife. . he was so happy, amazed, excited, proud when he saw the baby. just seeing Irwin's reaction to it all was sweet.

on a regular basis probably had a chance to see it. They included Bindi's birth in one of the documentaries, the Crocodile Hunter series.

27. His family have rejected a state funeral
Edited on Thu Sep-07-06 05:14 AM by Sonnabend
a public one will be held instead. I imagine a lot of people will be there to wish him well...and it would not surprise me to see that his family are well cared for by total strangers.

Many have remarked on this matter of Irwin and his death...perhaps it is the shock of a young man, dedicated, fierce, brave...following his conscience when so many abandon theirs for petty politics, or to follow others despite knowing the evil they do....to die so young, his dreams unrealised and soi much left to do.

Most also forget that the original circus was a place of life and death...and in the oceans of this world, they too are a place of life and sudden, violent death..nature seldom, if ever, takes prisoners

..and perhaps if we felt the death of a stranger, as keenly as we felt the death of one we know and love...the world might be a safer and perhaps gentler place.

No man is an island, entire of itself
every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main
if a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were,
as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were
any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind
and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls
it tolls for thee.

-John Donne.

31. Fatherless or motherless children reduce me to tears every time.
We had a terrible scare with my husband earlier this summer and all I could think about, (well, besides the obvious part about missing him) was how I was going to tell his children.

My heart breaks for Terri, as well as any other person who has had to deliver that devastating news. I watched a friend of mine tell hre kids that their dad was gone and if I live to be 100, I will never forget the look on her face, nor the children's.

33. Heart-breaking
I can't read the whole thing. The part that really got me was this:

"For Irwin, the rare father-daughter interview and photo was so treasured he requested all photos from the shoot be sent to him – a series Bindi will now treasure forever."

A father asking for all the photos because he loved his daughter so much... tear-jerking. I love my dad immensely but he would never even ask for one photograph much less all of them. Maybe that's why it made me cry.
