Scholastic CorpTeachers Guide (Grades 9-12) Based On ABC 9/11 Mini-Series
Scholastic Corporation has put out a teaching guide for grades 9-12 Based on ABC MINI-SERIES!!!!

9/11 Discussion Guide for ABC Miniseries

On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes, resulting in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people. They crashed the planes into the World Trade Center towers in New York City; the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia (outside Washington, D.C.); and a field in Pennsylvania. The world was changed forever.

Dear Teachers,

The tragic events of September 11, 2001, challenged the core of our humanity. The impact was felt across the world.

Americans have only begun to comprehend the national and global implications of 9/11. As a global community we try to make sense of what happened and why, and how it could have occurred. We rely on eyewitness accounts, the media, and personal dialogue for answers.

On the fifth anniversary of 9/11, The Path to 9/11 (an ABC miniseries that details the historical events leading up to 9/11, beginning with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing) will air as a nationwide broadcast. This dramatization of events is based on The 9/11 Commission Report, published in July 2004. Created by Congress and President Bush, the 9/11 Commission was a bipartisan group charged with providing an account of the events surrounding 9/11 and recommendations for preventing future attacks. http://content.scholastic.com/browse/lessonplan.jsp?id=415

Among the questions: Does the media help or hinder the War on Terror?

4. I'll be on the lookout for that at my daughter's school . . .
And be sure to insist on sitting with her if she's required to watch. Right now all I know is that the producer is a notorious rightwing activist and that the buzz is that the show unfairly lays failures at Clinton's door while giving Schimpanski a pass.

I guess I'll have to see for myself.

5. So now they are going after the younger generations to teach them
propaganda? Isn't this something that was in vogue someplace in Europe during the 1930s? Next thing you know they will be telling the kiddies to rat out their parents if they think they are Democrats.

6. Scholastic encourages us to "look back over the past five years
and consider...what led to the events "

Or we could look back over the last 100 years at the rape of the Arabian peninsula and get a slightly deeper understanding

7. Now if they had encouraged us to "look back . . .
over the past five years and consider" how America's response to 9/11 has been dysfunctional, error-filled, fueled by lies and pursuit of partisan advantage, illegal, ineffective, murderous, and just plain stupid, perhaps this "look back" would be of value.

Or perhaps we could look back even a little further (Americans aren't real good at long looks back -- unless maybe to the Civil War) to how the redistribution of wealth towards 1) America in general and 2) the rich in specific have bread Islamic fundamentalism and a general sense of resentment that supports a whole host of fanatics of all stripes.

8. Not surprising these days,.. Gotta propagandize starting with the young..
This way a whole new group of citizens can grow up with pseudo-facts as the basis for their American History knowledge...

They can tuck it into their brains, right alongside the Gulf of Tonkin "facts" , the cherry tree, the "Remember the Maine", and other myths..

When they grow up, and stuff percolates back into the general public about the horrible Bush adminsitrations, they can say.."Hey THAT was KLINTON's fault".:puke:
