Jon Elliott (San Diego local) to cover Mike Malloy's spot until 9/18
This afternoon as we were listening to the Jon Elliott show on our local progressive channel in San Diego, KLSD - AM1360, and he mentioned that he will temporarily step into Mike Malloy's time slot until 9/18. I urge all of you to listen to Jon Elliott: he is articulate, intelligent, has great guests on his show, is a good interviewer and is always up to date on the latest information. He is great at taking listener's calls and shows real cajones. During his show he also has a website where he has a chatroom that you can all participate in and discuss the topics on the show while listening to his show streaming. Morrison runs the chatroom. I personally would like to see Jon on a national show but I think this temp gig on Air America is a good start. Here is his website:

Note: My wife spoke with Morrison in the chatroom and he mentioned that after 9/18 Laura Flanders will be taking that time slot; he didn't mention if it was permanent or temporary.

1. Laura Flanders is replacing him permanently
I've been reading a lot about this. Bartcop had a piece describing an interview Malloy did on the Sacramento local show. The official excuse is that since Laura Flanders brings her own sponsors (the Nation magazine) AAR doesn't have to pay her. So that's the official story.

Truthseekers know better than to believe every official story, though. . . .

4. From Laura's blog: as far as they know, they're not moving to weekdays.
Posted by Flanders' senior producer:

Dear bloggers. While the rumor mill is spinning. We have been told absolutely nothing about moving to the week, let alone to replace Mike Malloy in his late night slot. We were as shocked as everyone about Malloy, who is a kindred spirit. Everything else really is speculation. AAR management is making changes, but the last we've been told we're staying in our weekend perch.

7. Will Listen
I was not a fan of Malloy, but sorry to see anyone lose their job, especially old guys like Malloy. Radio is a shitty business since consolidation, not as easy to rebound in another market since so few own so many.

8. Yeah you said it.
"Radio is a shitty business"

It doesn't help either when your own company fucks you over to make a few extra pennies for themselves.
