Utahns Send Bush a Message: Give Us the Truth!
By Laura Bonham, Genesis Chapter
September 1, 2006, Salt Lake City, UT

Led by Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson from the steps of the City County Building, approximately 7,500 activists chanted Give us the truth, give us the truth as Anderson delivered a biting speech condemning the current administration, and demanding accountability. Anderson was joined by Aaron Davis of Veterans for Peace, Kathy Taylor of Military Families Speak Out, and Doug Wildfoerster, WWII veteran and Legionnaire, among others.

The We the People for Justice and Peace Rally took place in Washington Square in the downtown area. It was organized by Utah Voices, a coalition of peace and justice groups working in Utah, in response to the arrivals of President Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, and Condoleezza Rice, who flew in to address the national American Legion convention.

A total of five rallies were held in Salt Lake, some in protest, some in support of Bushs policies; the peace rally was by far the largest. The crowd came from all walks of life. There were moms with kids, business people, veterans, youths, drummers, immigrants and everything in between. Several organizations set up tables and were distributing materials. Utahs Genesis Chapter of PDA in alliance with the Utah Democratic Progressive Caucus handed out 3,000 green End the occupation of Iraq stickers. The group garnered hundreds of new members to add to its rolls. The Backbone Campaign sent their latest project, the Chain Gang -- human puppets of Bush, Rice, Vice President Cheney, and Karl Rove -- which drew a lot of interest from the crowd.

At 1:15 the assembly exited Washington Square on a four-block march north on State Street to deliver an indictment of the Bush administration at the federal building. By the time the march came to an end, Washington Square was cleared of any sign of the rally, but for those who participated, it will be well remembered as the day that Utahns demanded the truth from an administration awash in lies and incompetence.

18. I was curious about the Leo Wanta sign, so I found a link... I LOVE DU!
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 02:45 PM by StrictlyRockers
It is an intersting story. I am leaning toward thinking it's credible after a bit of research. Anyone else familiar with the Leo Wanta story? Is it hogwash? He doesn't sound as crazy as what he says does.

This page has two podcasts with interview with Mr. Leo Wanta. The podcasts are about a tenth of the way down the page, dated July 21, 2006 and July 20, 2006.
