where have we heard this bullshit before? Oh yeah, msnbc.

For five straight years now they've captured or killed a number TWO al qaeda operative, BUT NEVER EVER NUMBER ONE. Let's see, what was that number one guy's name again?

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's national security adviser on Sunday announced the arrest of the second most senior figure in al-Qaida in Iraq.

Hamed Jumaa Farid al-Saeedi, known as Abu Humam or Abu Rana, was arrested a few days ago, Mouwaffak al-Rubaie said.

"We believe that al-Qaida in Iraq suffers from a serious leadership crisis. Our troops have dealt fatal and painful blows to this organization," he said.

3. Hardly surprising.
"We believe that al-Qaida in Iraq suffers from a serious leadership crisis. Our troops have dealt fatal and painful blows to this organization,"

Well, sure, since we've killed about 500 guys who were supposedly the 'number two' Al Quaeda leader, they must be seriously short of number two people about now.

We also inflicted blows on the organization that are not only 'fatal,' but also 'painful.' I don't know about you, but I find the painful fatal blows to be so much more damaging, leadershipwise-speaking, than merely fatal ones. Don't like that pain, oh no.

Just as an aside, I wonder if Al Quaeda's leadership crisis is anything like as serious as ours.

6. Must be very difficult to groom anyone to ascend to number one status!
I still maintain AQ is a classic example of Matrix Management and everybody is a number two!
