A dear friend of mine, a brilliant lawyer, died at age 62 of lung cancer some years ago (yeah, he smoked a lot). We've all known good people who passed on, too soon.

But look at the people in power:

Rummy -- He doesn't look physically healthy. Look at those yellow teeth. He must smoke 24/7. And he has that "grey" look. How old is he? Isn't he 70 something?

Cheney -- Given his medical problems, anyone carrying around that much extra weight would have been dead long ago. He's had gout. He's got so many artificial devices implanted to keep his body functioning, it's a wonder something doesn't just seize up and kill him.

Chertoff -- I'd like to see pictures of his blood relatives. Maybe it's a family trait. Maybe they all look like that - faces like skin stretched over a death's head skull. Yikes! And he's ashen looking. Does he ever get outside?

Richard Perle -- 'Nuff said!

I could go on, but you get the idea. How come these clearly unhealthy people just go on and on and on and continue their predations on humanity?

Maybe, in some twisted way, this is proof that there really is a god, with some malignant plan for the universe. Because if the universe were truly random, then these worthless SOBs would occasionally get swept up, along with all those who are really contributing something to the betterment of humankind.
