I think it's interesting that in the Bible the first thing that God tells Adam to do is name everything. In fact that's, I think, the only proactive order God ever gives, everything else is just "don't do this, don't do that, don't look over there, don't open my box, etc"
It's interesting because so much of what we do is to classifiy and define and name things. One could argue that all aspects of science and social science come down to discovering things, which while beneficial to mankind, need names and classifications and descriptions and groupings and affiliations, and related notes...
We're information gatherers by nature. We gather information in, classifiy and organize it, and use it. We do this in everything we do. Whether we're looking something up on Google, or figuring out the new vacuum cleaner's settings. We're gathering information and organiziing it in our heads. Everything comes down to simple data retrieval and storage.
That's where name recognition comes in. When we recognize a name it's much easier to file and organize so it gets immediate grouping. If there is an election between 'bush' and 'shazzwat' we immediately can put 'bush' into a classification grouping. We might note even think we need to organize it more. "bush", "running for office"...file...
"shazzwat" no listing. no reference. no groupings.
Now for people who spend additional time thinking about politics and the related situations and gathering and classifying that information, it becomes easy to create groupings, and move beyond that simple piece of data. For many people though, they're either too lazy to gather that information, or they are too busy gathering other information (like how to best flip beer caps into a cup across the room and which techniques are better, and to name those techniques) too spend any time. So they have a big file on Bush, which is fairly general, and no file on Shazzbot.
So it's easier for 'Bush' to get elected.
so why do we let them fuck up the world in front of our eyes, and let them get away with it, and not learn, and even ask this question? Because we're information gatherers and unfortunately the majority of the population is more interested in gathering information and classifying the best fishing holes on the Clarion river, or which Nascar drivers stats are most significant to the current race, or anything else BESIDES these questions...so the information isn't gathered, classified, stored, or thought about...
And the rest of us bend over and squeel like pigs.
