Physician tells of Karr's sex-change plan ($125 to remove testicles)
http://www.denverpost.com/jonbenet/ci_4212771

Dr. Setthakarn Attakonpan of Siam Swan Cosmetic Clinic in Bangkok said Karr first came to him March 9 for hair removal on his face, neck and cheeks.

"The reason he wanted to do hair removal was because he wanted to do a sex change," Attakonpan told
The Post. "He told me he was in the process of medical treatment for cutting off his testicles."

Karr completed four treatments at the clinic, the last on July 24, medical records at the clinic show. "He was concerned most about his sideburns," Attakonpan recalled.
..

Vechavisit showed a newspaper advertisement that ran in an English-language paper that listed prices in U.S. dollars for his services. Breast-enlargement surgery was $1,125; liposuction was $625; a tummy tuck, $1,250; and the removal of testicles, $125.

2. Yes, but wait until they start outsourcing our heart surgeries to there!
They'll start putting us on planes and back for less than the cost of a surgeon here! :scared:

19. It's already happening...some insurance companies
are paying to fly people to India for certain procedures. They claim that even with the flight costs a hospital stay and surgery in India is cheaper than in the US.

As if lawyerly outsourcing did not have its pros and cons, how about
outsourcing surgery?

Maharashtra woos medical tourists
By the BBC's Ben Wright

"Open your new eyes on the beach of Juhu" is a possible slogan
Many people from the developed world come to India for the rejuvenation
promised by yoga and ayurvedic massage, but few consider it a destination
for hip replacements or brain surgery.

Yet that's exactly what the government in the Indian state of Maharashtra
hopes will happen soon.

5. i'm confused
so anyone can go to thailand and pay $125 and get their balls cut off? Like just like that?

I remember watching on some trashy reality tv talk shows that in the U.S. doctors won't cut off the balls of a person until they have been living as a female for like over a year and have taken hormones.

8. That's because most places have this thing called "medical ethics"!
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 06:33 PM by LoZoccolo
I actually know of someone who went through that here too; he had a waiting period of a year wherein he had to assume the role before they did the surgery. I wonder what the rate of changing-your-mind is. I've heard that some male-to-female transgendered people prefer to keep their genetalia and just modify their secondary characteristics.

16. Not only that but they go through intense psycotherapy.
It ain't easy getting a sex change operation in the states. I know one person that did it back in the 70's. Female to male. She went through a year of psychotherapy before they would even think about giving her the hormones. It was very interesting...I've only met one other person (that I know of) that went through it and he/she went through a lot.

20. i know someone who had it done, male to female, face lift, the works
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 09:46 PM by pitohui
she looks terrific and the cost was a fraction of what it is in the usa and the treatment was about a zillion times better

in usa she had already lived as a woman for a year and was being jerked around to be put on a waiting list to wait a further two years while some "shrink" profited off the required psychotherapy, excuse me, she was already 50 years old, she had lived enough of her life in a body that didn't fit

in thailand her hospital suite overlooked the ocean, with rooms for family members to visit and even tours arranged for her while she was resting up from various procedures, her photos of the experience were unbelievable -- makes usa hospitals look like effin' prisons
