What do you guys think about
the fact that Hezbollah is making everything right with Lebanese victims of the 34-Day War?

Today, they began handing out $12,000US to each and every family whose home was lost during the conflict and have promised to rebuild southern Lebanon. What's very ironic about it is that they are making the payments in cash - US $100 bills.

1. Means that they are verifying their existence as a country....
By rebuilding Lebanon, they will find favor with the Lebanese. You forget.. hezbollah do not believe they are terrorists.. its what we have coined them.

2. Talk about winning hearts and minds
I always thought that not bolstering the Lebanese government so that it, instead of Hezbollah, was providing social services, was a mistake. And as long as that government remains weak and ineffectual, groups like Hezbollah will continue to come in and fill the gaps. People will support a group that helps them get their lives back together, and Hezbollah knows this. Why the UN or Israel and its allies can't see this is beyond me.

3. When you have a large
operation already organized on the ground and when you have lots of oil money--and need to make sure that you're seen as the defender and father of the people--you do what you need.

Sa'udi Arabia and others are giving money to the government.

Yet it's Hezb that has the real cash. Where do you think that's coming from, and what's the payoff for the funding source?

5. Is anyone really surprised that they are? I expected them to

and I'm sure a great many people expected them to as well.

Well, maybe not the Bush Regime - who are "scrambling" - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2461539 -
to get aid to Lebanon to compete with Hezbollah. But then, they are fairly obtuse when it comes to what people really need and want. The well-being of the people only comes to them as an after-thought (and even then someone has to tell them)...when their actions are exposed and they hope to do damage control.

6. As much as if that were true.
You just can't make some things right with money. Like the dead people, money won't fix that one. Hezbollah has vast amounts of money, from various countries. Now is the time that Lebanon takes over the money flow and makes Hezbollah into it's newest military division. Then there would be no more terrorism, just wars between sovereign states, IMO. No one could use the 'terrorism' excuse on either side.
