"SECURITY OF ELECTIONS" i.e., BLACK BOX VOTING- Wes Clark Podcast
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 04:29 PM by FrenchieCat
I thought some of you may want to hear this 30 minute podcast which interviews Debra Bowens, David Dill and Mark Crispin Miller; some of the most notables in our country, on the specific issue of Electronic Voting, including the problems of Black Box Voting!

Here's the link to that podcast: http://media.libsyn.com/media/clarkcast/clarkcast_021.m...

You can also participate on his Wesblog to make comments on the information you've heard and your thoughts.....

(Please note that The Clark podcast series has ranked as the Number 1 political podcast!)

Each day it starts with us to make a difference. :patriot:

1. I know that this issue is ubber important......and I know that many DUers
have expressed the importance of mainstream Democrats addressing the Electronic Voting machines in order to give this genuine risk to our democracy more credibility!

General Wes Clark has just done this, and so, I salute him for it! :patriot:

I hope folks will support the idea....because if he gets no traction on this issue.....then other Democrats who like to play it safe won't be willing to come out on this....and we NEED THEM ALL!

2. Thank you FrenchieCat, for the info

I will check it out and pass it on.

I have several friends and family members who are following this topic -- it is essential!

(On a somewhat related note, we just had a primary here in NV yesterday, many voters were disenfranchised when over 100 volunteer and paid poll workers didn't show up their assigned duties! In my precinct, our machine and sign in sheet was missing for three hours - from 7am to 10am because one of these worker/volunteers didn't show and because the coordination of management was lacking sorely. While this story doesn't specifically relate to the issue of electronic voting, I thought I'd mention it as a reminder that there are also many other ways, accident or not, that voters will be disenfranchised and we need to tackle this problem once and for all. I reported this with my registrars office and with the Dem Party, and the party is filing a complaint.)

On to your links now...

3. Also know that the issue of voters disfranchisement is covered
in a different podcast of Clark's.

This particular one on security of elections is Clarkcast #21

However, voter suppression is covered in Clarkcast #20.....

4. So what potential candidate has taken on the Electronic Machine
issue?

I know that Kucinich has.

I know that Wes Clark has.

Any others?

8. Senate floor debate on Voting Rights Act

Sen. John Kerry speaking:

But we need to complete the job. There are too many stories all across this country of people who say they registered duly, they reported to vote, and they were made to stand in one line or another line and get an excuse why, when they get to the end of the line, they can't vote. So they take out a provisional ballot, and then there are fights over provisional ballots.

There are ways for us to avoid that. Some States allow same-day registration. In some parts of America, you can just walk up the day of an election, register, and vote, as long as you can prove your residence.

We have this incredible patchwork of laws and rules, and in the process, it is even more confusing for Americans. We need to fully fund the Help America Vote Act so that we have the machines in place, so that people are informed, so that there is no one in America who waits an undue amount of time in order to be able to cast a vote.

We have to pass the Count Every Vote Act that Senator Clinton, Senator Boxer, and I have introduced which ensures exactly what the Senator from Oregon was talking about: that every voter in America has a verifiable paper trail for their vote. How can we have a system where you can touch a screen and even after you touch the name of one candidate on the screen, the other candidate's name comes up, and if you are not attentive to what you have done and you just go in, touch the screen, push ``select,'' you voted for someone else and didn't intend to? How can we have a system like that?

How can we have a system where the voting machines are proprietary to a private business so that the public sector has no way of verifying what the computer code is and whether or not it is accountable and fair? Just accounting for it.

Congress has to ensure that every vote cast in America is counted, that every precinct in America has a fair distribution of voting machines, that voter suppression and intimidation are un-American and must cease.
>>>>>

We need to get MORE Dems speaking out on election fraud and the machines. It's not easy to do publically, but it MUST be done. Quickly.

13. This really is about Securing America.
This is one of the most important issues of our time. I know Clark has also advocated Election Day as a national holiday. That is more important than any holiday on the calendar.
