Why are we trying to unite the world and the UN to stop war in Lebanon?
...as the war in Iraq continues on even a more deadly pace? And people seem to ignore it. Why the distinction? Why do we put forth such great effort to bring about a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel and our soldiers are not even dying in that war? But in Iraq, where is the ceasefire? Where is the effort for peace? Where is the request for UN aid? We call all the neighbors to put out a brushfire in our backyard as our own house burns down?

1. VERY good question- and
one I'd love to see answered well-

Where is the groundswell of calls for peace and 'cease-fire' in Iraq?

Could it be that because it doesn't 'directly' involve the "US" it is somehow ok to say 'we have to make this stop"?
Have we become something so ..... monstrous...? untouchable?

that is the only reason I can come up with- "We" can point our fingers at other countries, even if they have a distinct curve in them, but America seems very handicapped at honest introspection- and admitting fallibility- which is a tremendous 'character flaw' imho-

Arrogance is not good 'foreign policy'-

peace,
blu

8. the obvious answer if that the UN process is tilted towards the US
and our country's interests. The reasons for that have to do with the understanding that, as they confront our dominant military power, the international body can either condem, (which Annan did) ignore, or be coopted. There is no power in the world which intends to counter these dominant forces which really has any means to control them outside of their ability to organize a collective clucking of tongues. Fortunately there is still enough humanity among the members to keep the world from behaving like earthly denizens of hell, but in their bargaining away of so many innocent lives and livelihoods, they're not far off.

4. Who do you mean by we?
We as in the American state, we as in individual citizens, we as espendable consumers, who?

5. Simple answer: Because we're the USA! Anything we do, cannot be
criticized nor interfered with by any one!

9. 'We' are working hard at both. The Bush regime, however,
is responsible for the hypocricy and inconsistency in our nation's posture and direction in foreign affairs. Why do they do what they do? Don't get me started.
