"Pacifist" is a horribly insulting slur.
Please discuss.

"For Republicans, though, Mr Lamont is the archetype of the pacifist Democrat, a theme the party hopes to exploit in November’s midterm elections."

and still believe that courage, honor, dignity, and strength all hinge on violent responses to conflict.

5. It's not a slur. It can be an insult in some cases, but
usually when the person's being misrepresented. There are people that are pacifists and will say so, with no irony implied.

I'm not aware that Lamont is a pacifist. I presume it's an overstatement of the case: be for a speedy withdrawal from Iraq = pacificist; pacificism is not held in high regard by most Americans.

6. They. Just. Don't. Get. It.
Thank Bob, because I am hoping their cluelessness continues right on through November.

But their buzzwords don't work anymore. The majority of Americans want this war over. They want the soldiers to stop dying. They want the money to stop bleeding out in a failed war. They want a government that governs.

Let them fling their feces. The more they do it, the more it's pissing the average American off.

8. Not to me
I call myself one, so I don't think it's all that demeaning. I know how a lot of people feel about pacifists, though, and the confusion between "passive" and "pacifist" is pervasive.

11. working for peace is harder than killing for it-
because working to establish and maintain peace means continually being aware of our actions in the world- not the 'base' tactic of destroying those who don't submit or agree with us-

Peace is an ongoing work-

War is an ongoing hell, with pauses between battles to re-arm and reproduce pawns-

cynical, but true- in my experience-

peace,
blu

Pacifism is not a trait I want in my leaders, personally. Any of you who are pascifists, I hope you choose to stay out of government.

20. Pacifism is pro-fascist according to Orwell
A person who is not willing to fight against oppression and fascism is a supporter of such system. Basically its the same philosophy that if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Personally I think a person who is against all forms of violence is living in fantasy land. There are just too many people out there in the world that are willing to take away your freedoms. And if you allow them to do so, then you deserve the government that you get. That's my opinion.

Sometimes violence is the only way. Sure Ghandi was successful against the Brits. But how long do you think Ghandi would have lasted against the Nazis? They'd shoot him and all his people without any hesitation or emotion at all.
