Would the Democrats support war on Iran?
If Sy Hersh's reporting is true, Iran seems to be on the Neocon's list for military action in the not too distant future (within the next year or thereabouts). Would Democrats support such a war or would they oppose it?

1. I think it depends on the spin.
Everything depends on the spin.

2. I'll bet that they won't get full Republican support.

And the Dems will be almost all lined up against it.

This is one dog that ain't gonna hunt.

on edit: That's why I'm kind of hoping that they start rattling the sabers on Iran. Proposing the starting of another war will be perfect for November. People will vote the Repugs out of office in droves.

If the Repugs support Chimp, they're screwed. If they don't support Chimp, they're screwed, too, because it won't stop Chimp from going down the path to war. The only method people will have to oppose this will be to express their displeasure against Republicans.

4. I doubt there will be more than a handful in Congress opposed.
They nearly all supported the US/Israeli war against Lebanon.

5. Does Lieberman count?
I think he'd support a war on New York if George said he wanted one.

6. That question is tongue in cheek, isn't it?
This question does not even need asking.

If the dice fall our way, there will be no possibility of an additional war come November. And since clear thinking people do exist on the Right, I don't think they will allow another phony build up to grab power.

7. There is no sensible way ANYONE could possibly support a war with Iran
unless Iran launched a massive sneak sudden attack on the US, or another NATO country, then we would be pretty much duty bound for war, would we not?

This would be World War III. There is no way of guessing how the alignments would end up in such a scenario, much like Italy at first willing to go to war with Germany over Austria/Tyrol and Romania sitting on the sidelines as long as possible in both World Wars...

Iran has some 70 millionish people in it. Most of them are Persians and speak Farsi. It is as large as the UK, France and Germany combined. There are mountains everywhere. It has a huge industrial base. It borders Armenia and Turkey, Pakistan and Iraq.

With those stats, only an idiot who desired utter defeat of a huge chunk of the Eurasian and possibly North American continents would WANT to go to war with Iran.

Were the Democratic Party support a war with Iran en bloc, that is the day I leave the party. The stakes are entirely too high to play politics with Iran.
