Regarding Dangers: Google "Incompatible Materials."
Stuff doesn't need to be exotic or come as premade explosives or gasses.

Lots of relatively simple stuff out there that naturally becomes highly toxic or highly corrosive when combined with any other relatively simple stuff.

You don't even need a detenator in a lot of cases.

3. Yep. You can make a pretty lethal bomb with a pipe, nails
and an explosive material. All it has to do is rip a hole in the airplane to the outside.

5. Doesn't have to..
You don't have to bring down the plane immediately... A small fire started in a strategic location is good enough.

4. If that's true, why did it take five years to ban liquids on planes?
People can still bring liquids on subways, trains and busses. Someday we will finally figure out that the best way to combat terrorism is to stop creating terrorists.

6. 5 years? Try decades. We've known of the dangers for a long long
time. 13 years ago, such a bomb was exploded on an airplane (Wikipedia: Oplan Bojinka)
