What's happening tomorrow, that BushCo would need a distraction?
Here are a few I can come up with:

- Dems (Conyers) Snoopgate hearing
- Iraqi election results
- DOJ reporting that Bush snooping is legal

What else?

1. think from the other direction: its a one-two-three punch combo:
all within 12 hours:

1. osama tape released
2. cheney beats the "terra" drums, and says that's why the pretzeldent needs to wiretap us
3. White house releases (tonight, according to rawstory) 40 page defense, claiming the wiretapping was actually, counter to the believe of every other legal mind in the country, legal as all get out.

4. Their tactics are getting kind of stale though. Americans grow weary
as they check their 401-K's, deal with elderly relatives who have been caught in Bush's Medicare Prescription mess...New Orleans continues to be a sore spot, gas and oil bills going through the roof to heat the Mansions and McMansions, prime vacation spots for second homes looking shaky with the specter of tax increases for insurance and beach renourishment, kids in crowded school classrooms and after awhile "Crying Osama" just kind of rings hollow.

21. America's heartthrob Cheney
goes on a personal mission. Bombing in Pakistan. Insufficient but milked. Osama tape. Firming up up for Iran. Covering the ass back home. Getting away from the legions of reporters.

Cheney 2004. Go to cheat states at last minute. Go to Hawaii(last ditch defense that laughably was never needed).

Obviously Cheney doesn't go to these places at propitious, troubled times with propitious results just for his health.

And certainly not for ours.

5. I don't think so. If we can depend on the last time,
Fitz was reported to have visited the judge, and apparently when indictments are filed, even they're not made public, the filing is public info.

I don't think that's it.

My guess would be they're trying to take the attention off of Congressional reform. That's been the big headline in the last two days, and the nedia was playing the "which plan do you prefer..Pub or Dem? I suspect THAT'S what they're trying to distract from.

7. There's blood in the water
and they're freaking out. Once the first big fish gets indicted they know that it's over. They will do anything to prevent that.

But I understand what you mean about wondering if this is a distraction.

10. It might not be tomorrow. Patriot Act expires Feb. 3
and must be extended again, or some provisions pass out of law.

13. I don't know about "good"
But I am quite interested to see what's been done with my tax dollars and in my name. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say.

C'mon Mr. Bush; it's my money. Don't I get to see what I'm paying for?

19. I think it's at least partly #3 plus they REALLY want Alito:
"legalized" fascist dictatorship if they can successfully pack the SCOTUS with radical ideologues.

thread title (1-19-06 LBN): Justice Department to declare warrantless wiretaps legal (leaked Doc)
Unitary Executive principle – in our faces. No wonder that “new bin Laden tape” was “discovered” just now. They want Alito confirmed so that this will be upheld – and it’s the precedent that will be used to “justify” Bush being an absolute king unchecked by Congress or laws.

23. Probably just Bin Laden mad about last week's mob hit in pakistan.
But it might mean Ney get frog marched. I don't think they'll get any press on the COnyers hearing, so, they're not worried bout that.
