pshopped Reuters photo-just on Cnn
the little green footballs guy was on as the 'expert' (btw, it was one of his readers that drew his attention to the pic). coininky and familiar, isn't it?

if someone has the pics, please post them here, I've lost the other threads.

anyway, sure sounds like a deliberate set up to me to have general distrust of the horrific pictures we see from the war. Apparently the photographer was also involved in taking pictures at Qana and 'rearranging' the bodies for more effect? (sorry, didn't quite understand this part).

and get this - all these pictures that come out of lebanon have to get Hizbollah approval - that's what Johnson the footballer said. Also said we have to be really suspicious as to whether they are real.

there ya go.
the cynics were right, imho.
this isn't about sensationalism by reporters/editors - this is simply propaganda by the military.

1. Well, this is no surprise. We've seen it before. It was a propaganda scam.
And, honestly, what other reason could there really
be for such a POINTLESS act of PhotoShopping?

And now the Lying CrapWeasels of the Far Right
are on TV being called 'experts' as they unfold
their Rovian scheme, just as we :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat:

some r/w talkshower will muddy the waters of the new fresh hell with:
-well, remember that doctored photo of beirut?

::Are you suggesting that this photo has been tampered with and isnot as horrific as it appears?::

-we do know that this kind of thing has been done in the past.

just plant the seed, that all that is needed. and it works - 50% of americans still think Saddam had WMD?

6. You're out of date.
Adnan Hajj is the photographer in the obviously edited photo--there's no question it was edited.

And another one of his photos was dumped on as being edited--obviously so--triggering Reuter's removal of all his photos from their archives.

However, others of his photos are obviously staged. Or intentionally misdated.

That's all well and fine. His credibility is trashed, and the trashing is sound. But there's a reason that his name is important.

He was one of the photographers accused of staging many of the Qana photos. Reuters defended him when that accusation was hurled. They've stopped defending him.

One report today said he'd been with Reuters since '93. So he's not a recent recruit.

But I've only backed off a little. I have no other info. Zip. But I'm vaguely curious.

13. And why doctor a pic when the normal version is out there
for comparison? It's not even that the smoke looked so horrid. It's also that the clone brush used was so large, that it cloned half the buildings. Why do that?

I work in the newspaper business and there's no way a pic doctored as shabbily as it was, could get past a photo editor (They still have editors, don't they?). I mean someone checks the photos before publishing....Right?

30. I'm sorry, but that simply makes no sense.
To believe that this was a deliberate act by Hezbollah
requires the assumption that Hezbollah is just STUPID
on a monumental scale.

Ask yourself: WHAT did the changes actually 'change'
that could possibly help Hezbollah in any way?

Nothing, that's what. The changes were completely
and utterly POINTLESS from a Hezbollah point of view.

24. Yup. The only significant "change" is from 'real' to 'blatant fake'.
Just like the other PhotoShopped photo of the jet,
there is no SUBSTANTIVE change to the events shown in the pic.
And whoever altered them was OBVIOUSLY not trying
to FOOL anyone, so we have to ask what they _WERE_
trying to accomplish.

The ONLY reason to waste time making such blatant,
POINTLESS alterations is to cast some doubt
upon the waters of discourse, to deliberately
create a straw for the drowning warmonger-opinion
to cling to.

And now, Stage 2, the Corporate Media begin to spin that
straw into a log, then a raft...

The real question is: did we LEARN from recent history,
or are we going to relive it?

26. The accusation would be that he is an Israeli or American plant.
As well he could have been. This is classic black op stuff that Mossad and the CIA have both been caught doing before. These were obvious and pointless forgeries; why copy the number of plumes of smoke on a burning building, or the number of bombs dropping from a plane? The building is destroyed anyway, the plane is dropping bombs anyway. Those pictures weren't made any more compelling or pro-Lebanese by the alterations. Then news of planted forgeries could then leaked onto message boards, where people with no traceable link to the agency could "discover" the fraud, discrediting the only people who are able to report back home what is happening in Lebanon.

Both of you are conspiracy theorists. Either it's the one above, where agencies which are renowned for their use of disinformation campaigns used an Arab agent to attack the media, or its the right wing's conspiracy theory: that the red cross, Lebanese government, world's media, and every other nation of the the face of the Earth except for the US and Israel is involved in a Satanic campaign to wipe the Jewish people from the planet. Personally, I'm more inclined to believe the one that sounds less insane. Israel admits responsibility for the attack of specific buildings, what are we supposed to think, that Israel bombs a building and Hezbollah sneaks in there afterward to pack it with children and blow it up, all with the watching approval of the Red Cross, UN, media, and other targets of Right wing fantasy?

Maybe they were meant for local consumption. If you remember, the imam who brought the Danish cartoons to the attention of the Moslem world added several caricatures of his own to ensure a proper reception. We in the West were arguing over European satire while the Moslem world was looking at really racist pictures.

33. Another just broke

From this article:
http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2006/08/07/473229.html

You should note that the net version and the paper version of this paper are two entirely different things. The paper version has all the old journalists and is considered liberal, while the net version had a shake up in 2004 (journalists fired) and invited neoconservative bloggers during the election, found the most conservative Norw. expert to comment the election and generally present Bush - not to mention Condi - either chillingly neutral or as heroes. I'm still reeling from that blow, this used to be a crass and good liberal paper. Still, they wouldn't lie, just an extraordinary bias towards the dumbass-in-chief. And Israel. And the Bible and stuff. I guess you know ;-)

Same photographer. Seems he was a bad apple after all. We should follow this guy in the time to come, just in case. Where did he come from in the first place? Poll_Blind in the other thread mentioned he took pictures during the soccer world cup.

Below is the Hajj photo dated August 5:

The purpose of these photoshops is not clear,

But in this climate, even that story is now suspect.

41. Wolfie was just praising Little Green Footballs
"Looks like he's got something going over there", wolfy said after being imformed that this same guy discovered memogate.
He's got something going alright Wolf, it is called catapulting the propaganda.

61. I would say that I am not allfire sure that he did that much
So far we are seeing manipulated smoke over a city and in a contrail.
If there has been more substantiated, I have missed it.
Call it what you like, I know what Little Green Footballs is doing- see Memogate.

50. Because the Photoshopping doesn't add much to either photo and...
it's EXTREMELY obvious in the first and only a little less in the second.

52. How about his other
"work" - the same building being "bombed" on 2 different days, etc.?

Maybe he wasn't the sharpest tool in the drawer? Maybe he has an overabundance of hubris? Maybe he's an amateur propagandist trying to get some experience?

People were on here days ago talking about "green helmet man" and Hajj's apparent staged photos. Now he's busted.

In the article where Reuters fired him, he totally denied any wrongdoing.
That leaves Rove.

...for bringing right-wad talking points to DU. (Powerline *spit*)

BTW...ynetnews linked video of the recovery of victims at Qana on their website. This green-helmet guy you are talking about was FILMED bringing bodies out of the wreckage of the bombed building. Nothing was staged. Nothing was photoshopped. It was real. Deal with it.

I don't know anything about Powerline - I followed a bunch of links and saw those photos.

Are the bloggers faking them?
