As much as we all try not to admit it it seems as though...
it is ineveitable that there will be a draft whether it is wanted or not. It seems as though the bush administration is trying to create more conflicts everyday and frighten as many people as possible about the terrorists so that they can gain more recruits. I don't think that it will work I believe that it will backfire because he has pitted americans against americans. He is working it some way so that if the dems regain power it will be so f--ked up that he and his party will make it seem as though it is their fault that he has f--ked up everything.

1. Now Bush wants to federalize the natl guards...
... and the governors of states aren't too happy about that.

That's definitely a prelude to the draft.

2. Many of the people who are calling for the draft are democrats...
because they realize that if you leave the situation the way it is now, there will be no resolution what so ever.

The war and its escalation will be blamed on the current administration, but the majority of American deaths will fall directly on the shoulders of democrats if the draft is considered the answer the US whoas in the Middle East.

3. I don't think so
If there is a draft, then some of the rich elite youth may get caught in the net.

That is not going to happen. They will keep thinking up ways to draw in all the naive young of the lower classes. Meanwhile the IDF is doing their dirty work.

7. I agree. In addition, a draft will actually start a movement from the
college student bodies. They are the true protesters. If we want an end to this war quick, start up the draft.
With this in mind, there will be no draft. That's why they are paying signing bonuses and taking 42 yr olds.
What a fkn mess!

4. Bring it on ...
... speaking as a card carrying conscientious objector at the end of the Vietnam War.
Much as I have a distaste for a draft, I have an ambivalence.
I'm not sure a draft would be a bad thing at all.

Perhaps every generation needs to face straight on in terms of their individual survival the prospect of their lives being taken away from them by the state.

For over 30 years now, an entire generation has had an exemption from such things.
I think a good argument can be made that the decline in social responsibility in these 30 years has as one of its direct causes the absence of a military draft.

It's all just pictures on a television screen when you aren't directly threatened.

9. That will wake their asses up...
and all who say it doesn't matter because they are all the same will begin to see that its not in all matters.

5. I am very afraid that the Dems will get blamed for any draft
And we'll have the same issue: the war will be immoral.

6. He wants a draft so bad he can taste it
because the one thing that has the Pentagon telling him NO over invading Syria and Iran is a lack of manpower.

Congress needs to fight giving this madman an endless supply of young bodies to shred in the name of his imperial ambition. They are our only hope.

The only draft that should ever be acceptable is a temporary one in wartime when this country has been attacked by another power in the name of conquest.

11. News Story Link - Pentagon Reduced to Recruiting Neo-Nazis

Ten years after Pentagon leaders toughened policies on extremist activities by active duty personnel -- a move that came in the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing by decorated Gulf War combat veteran Timothy McVeigh and the murder of a black couple by members of a skinhead gang in the elite 82nd Airborne Division -- large numbers of neo-Nazis and skinhead extremists continue to infiltrate the ranks of the world's best-trained, best-equipped fighting force. Military recruiters and base commanders, under intense pressure from the war in Iraq to fill the ranks, often look the other way.

Neo-Nazis "stretch across all branches of service, they are linking up across the branches once they're inside, and they are hard-core," Department of Defense gang detective Scott Barfield said. "We've got Aryan Nations graffiti in Baghdad," he added. "That's a problem."

12. Not gonna happen
the political cost is too high - better to "extend" service of those already there and call up reservists and constantly lower the standards while scrambling to get out with media enabled "exit strategy".

The end is near - our services are so depleted and demoralized by Rummy et al that the ugly denouement WILL happen - after November, of course.
