And don't even think about hiding your dog in your house. They go up to every house and make noises so the dogs bark. Then drag the dogs out and not shoot, not euthanize, but beat them to death with sticks because 2,000 Chinese died of rabies last year. Every dog within 3 square miles will now be clubbed to death.

Heck I remember right here in the USA, there was a motion a while ago to get (what I consider) just bare minimal standards for chickens in those disgusting factory farms.
And Jesus this wasn't some super comprehensive, seriously humane solution even-just a small step up from the complete lack of any standards the big agricorps are guilty of.

And Applebee's, Chilli's and of course that beacon of progressive policies MacDonalds came forward and said "no way"...and why? Because their shareholders would take some ridiculously small hit in
their profits (this was one of those cases where it wasn't being passed on to consumer). They could not bear the thought of losing some miniscule amount of profit so that billions of wretched animals living in factory farms could have a slightly, marginally better life....

7. That's a very good point

Unfortunately the US isn't in a very good place to criticize animal abuse in other countries when so many billions are systematicly tortured and abused for reasons that are far less important or convincing than halting a rabies epidemic. Unfortunately most Americans and most DUers will see this, say something about how horrible beating a dog to death is, then go eat the flesh of a chicken that spent it's whole life in a cage, without ever connecting the ethical kinship between the two actions.

That was good of you to post a link to Farm Sanctuary, I got to visit thier CA location last month. There are pictures and stories in my journal if you'd like to see them.
