Rumsfeld breaks his own record
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 08:35 PM by Cocoa
edit: this post is about Rummy, not about the junior senator from NY.

I think this might be a record.

Ten sets of rhetorical questions and answers in a row.

He was out of control. He only stopped when his aide slapped him in the face.

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Video__Clinton_to_Rumsfeld_Why_0803.html

1.Are there still Taliban around? You bet.
2.Are they occupying safe havens in Afghanistan and other places, correction in Pakistan and other places? Certainly they are.
3.Is the violence up? Yes.
4.Does the violence tend to be up during the summer and spring, summer, and fall months? Yes it does.
And it tends to decline during the winter period.
5.Does that represent failed policy? I don't know, I would say not. I think you've got an awful lot of very talented people engaged in this, and the decisions that are being made are being made with great care after a great deal of consideration.
6.Are there setbacks? Yes.
7.Are there things that people can't anticipate? Yes.
8.Does the enemy have a brain and continue to make adjustments on the ground, requiring our forces to continue to make adjustments? You bet.
9.Is that going to continue to be the case? I think so.
10.Is this problem going to get solved in the near term about this violence struggle against extremism? No, I don't believe it is.

4. If Hillary was so awesome, why wasn't she prepared?
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 08:30 PM by hedgehog
I only heard the clip on the news, but when he denied saying the things he said, she should have had the record in front of her with every quote she needed. C- for lack of preparation.

5. Her record on support for...
...the war in Iraq and the latest ME conflict mean I can never again trust her.

I have no clue where she's coming from.

6. Short answer to 'where she's coming from...'
I think she's seeing what Lieberman is facing in CT (an ass-kicking for his support of the war), and she's umm, 're-calibrating' her attitude.

She wants to avoid Lieberman's seeming fate, so she has to burnish her anti-Team Thug cred, and quickly.

9. Yeah, she's playing the politics, not the principle.
I never know what is going to come out of her mouth these days, but I guess it depends on which way the wind is blowing. Too bad, because I like her and think she is extremely intelligent and generally pretty tough when she wants to be.

8. One minor quibble
I don't think that Rumsfeld's verbal masturbation actually counts as rhetorical question. Instead, each question is intended as an opportunity for him to craft a strawman to his liking so that he can knock it down and look like he's accomplished something. Lord knows the media won't call him on it.

A rhetorical question is "what kind of asshole would pretend to be adequate in the face of his own unrelenting incompetence?"

Rumsfeld's quasi-questions are pure Orwellian speechifying.

And he's an asshole, too.

10. She said he should resign. And well he should.
You are very hard on Hillary and she doesn't deserve the flack she gets. I wonder how you dare to be so nasty.

11. Beg your pardon?
I was dissing Rumsfeld. Unless I misunderstood myself, I didn't say anything about Sen. Clinton.

14. I saw that charade by Rumsfeld.
And while he was talking I was thinking I had never seen a more ARROGANT asshole in my entire life. He is even more arrogant than Bush. I would so love to see that bastard humiliated in the worst way possible. He is truly disgusting.
