PM: Israel Reaching Lebanon Goals (really???)

JERUSALEM, Aug. 3, 2006 (UPI) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said he believes the country is nearing its goals in Lebanon as air strikes resumed Thursday in the suburbs of Beirut.

Olmert told an Italian newspaper that he thinks the United Nations will vote on a ceasefire in Lebanon next week, the Voice of America reported.

The prime minister's comments came as the Israeli Air Force struck targets in southern Beirut, Lebanon's eastern Bekaa Valley, and roads near the Syrian border, VOA said.

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said that Israel shares the same goals in Lebanon with the international community.

"The idea is to disarm Hezbollah and to assist the Lebanese government (to) exercise its sovereignty on the entire Lebanon," said Livni.


What goals are they reaching with their disproportionate response which has killed over 600 Lebanese civilians? What evidence is there that they are any closer to disarming Hizbollah and reducing or eliminating the threat to their country?

You mean to tell me that Israel had a bigger motive that to kill thousands of innocent people and lose many of their own to free a couple of solders?
I suppose the next thing your going to tell me is that Iraq wasn't started over WMD's.

You blew up their barracks in Beirut, and you expect them to turn their guns against Hezbollah instead of IDF forces???
