A glimpse at the Colorado 5th District Republican Primary...
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 06:33 PM by kentuck
Six candidates! One is the former Sheriff of El Paso County. (Colorado Springs) He is supported by The Independent newspaper, the local version of moderate-left viewpoint. Another is a professional politician. He went from the Colorado Senate to the Colorado House after they passed term limits. Another is former Chief of Staff of retiring Rep Joel Hefley. He hopes to ride Hefley's coattails. Another is the present Mayor of Colorado Springs and he is an Hispanic. And he is against "illegal immigration". He would be the ideal winner for the national Republicans. Still another is the brother of the Bremer guy that was the potentate over in Iraq for a spell. Still one more unknown. The winner will run against the Democrat, Jay Fawcett. This is of some personal interest because I was the Democratic opponent against Mr Hefley a few years ago...

(on edit: the primary is August 8th)

1. my fondest hope is that the idiot lionel will win the repuke primary and
then lose to jay--and resign, thereby retiring to the oblivion he so richly deserves. had the misfortune to attend an event this afternoon where all these clowns were hanging out, nearly spoiled my appetite. but I behaved myself, did not cause a scene.

the things I do to maintain civility in the public arena!!!

when did you run against joel???

My timing was bad. :) It was 1998 - at the height of the Lewinsky scandal... Did you vote for me?

2. as one of my friends observed at the event mentioned earlier, you KNOW
there is something whacked about a slate of candidtates in which john anderson looks nearly sane.

4. Exactly...
He's the "moderate" one and he's a good friend of that insane Sheriff in Maricopa County down in AZ...

6. arrrgggh, I should have recognized the similarity--joe is definitely insan
and yet, he keeps getting re-elected. THAT is the part that worries me. it's pretty sad when even amnesty international has something to say about him.
