Annan: Israeli strike a"deliberate attack of clearly marked UN post"
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 06:31 PM by Bluebear
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan today said he was "shocked" at Israel's "apparently deliberate targeting" of a UN post in Lebanon, in which up to four UN observers were killed.

Mr Annan described the strike as a "co-ordinated artillery and aerial attack on a long established and clearly marked UN post."

He said it took place "despite personal assurances given to me by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that UN positions would be spared Israeli fire."

1. Its a typical 'liberty' the israeli's take with 3rd parties.
To shoot and kill them to avoid accurate observers, they veiw 'spies'.

3. I mighty strong statement. Premature, maybe?
Lets find out who is really responsible, Mr. Kofi.

5. OOPS! Accident #100001. Just like the accidents blowing up of All
Lebanese TV and Radio station -- even those run by the Maronite Christians the Israeli's claim
to support.

Could it be that Israel does not want "Observers" around.

12. "Apparently deliberate" does not mean "deliberate."
It is hard to conceive of anything the Israelis would have to gain by deliberately killing U.N. peacekeepers.

15. Probably intimidation, rather.
They don't want witnesses, as another poster mentioned earlier.

16. blood sport, huh.
you're right, the israelis get off on killing people. i certainly have noticed that israel lives in the midst of peaceful loving neighbors who have never done anything provocative. i don't understand why they feel so insecure.

19. Why not?
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 04:56 AM by CuteNFuzzy
Question one I have in response to that is why not.

Question two is this. Can you really not see how reasonable, concerned people like yourself just might conclude that Israel is indeed engaging in tactics that can be considered war crimes and blood sport? Look on your t.v. even CNN is showing pictures of children burning from white phosphorous. Hundreds of civilians dead, hundreds of thousands fleeing. Neighborhoods destroyed, ambulances attacked. Is it really all that unreasonable for anyone to conclude: "You know, Israel has gone too far"?

14. What did they have to gain from deliberately targeting ambulances?
Which they did from a helicopter gunship, btw.

17. WTF?
"Furthermore, General Alain Pelligrini, the UN Force Commander in south Lebanon, had been in repeated contact with Israeli officers throughout the day on Tuesday, stressing the need to protect that particular UN position from attack.

"I call on the Government of Israel to conduct a full investigation into this very disturbing incident and demand that any further attack on UN positions and personnel must stop.

Again, :wtf:
