No global warming here. I'm sure glad we don't have to be bothered.

2. I've seen it at 124 degrees in Yuma
Yep - that was in August of 1981 and I don't hink global warming existed then - not as a full blown phenomenon.

9. Well, I can't remember the last time it was 110 in Sonoma County in July
like it was today.

Whatever the day to day facts may be, long term, some serious shit is going down- and I'm certain the CO2 we keep pumping into the atmosphere is responsible.

3. I had to sit down and write a pen-and-paper letter to Inhofe today
His comments about Gore's film were absolutely criminal.

Senator James M. Inhofe
453 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510-3603

Dear Senator,

I am writing regarding an appearance you recently made on CNN with respect to global warming, during which you claimed that Al Gore was "full of crap" and that global warming was a "hoax".

Senator, either you know the phenomenon is real and are being disingenuous, or you are severely misinformed. All peer-reviewed, published science agrees not only that global warming is real, but that consequences will be catastrophic and irreversible unless action is taken now. There is no "recent science" which does anything but confirm the facts presented in Al Gore's film. For many examples with references, visit:

http://www.ecobridge.org/content/g_evd.htm.

To call your comments a disservice would be more than kind. They were irresponsible and without any foundation whatsoever. If they were the result of a coordinated PR campaign of the petroleum lobby, I am aghast that anyone would be willing to placate his contributors to the detriment of future generations, including those of his own family.

Sincerely,

wtmusic

12. I firmly believe in global warming
but it doesn't seem to be affecting our area here in Yuma. Up til now, it has been a fairly cool summer with temperatures under 110 degrees.

16. I believe it!
In the summer of 1996, I was tuned into the Weather Channel. The reporter stood in front of a bank whose sign read, "138" and announced, "This isn't the time in Laughlin, Nevada: It's the temperature."

Think I'll stay in New England. Our summers get hot enough, thank you very much!

20. I don't think the two things are strongly related.

While it may well be hotter than usual in Gila Bend at this time of year today, and there is good evidence that global warming is happening, the former is not strong evidence for the latter, and given that the degree of change in average global temperature due to global warming so far is (I think) small compared with the random fluctuations it's not terribly accurate to blame *individual* freak temperatures solely or largely on global warming (although if it is the case that more temperature records are being broken than in the past then it may be reasonable to blame the statistic as a whole on it).

121 is normal for Gila Bend, Yuma, Harquahala as they are just two doors down from hell. It usually just doesn't occur this early in summer.
