1. Yes. There's going to be even more empty space in Siberia than there
is now. Say, wasn't that area the dominion of Genghis Khan? May be Mongolian again.

2. it's very sad
Edited on Sat Jul-22-06 10:57 PM by JI7
i can't imagine what the people are going through in the country. they have a lot of problems. it's not all paradise with the downfall of communism there. it's a shame we didn't provide them help after the breakup of the Soviet Union as we did with other nations after WWII.

i remember some links being provided to color photos of the Russian Empire early in the 20th century before the Revolution. it looked so peaceful there and there seemed to be a lot of diversity. very beautiful pictures.

and it's all just going downhill.

5. If they were to join the EU
And open up their country to a hundred million or so settlers from the West . . .

Then there'd be a lot more people there by 2050. And probably producing lots of wealth for themselves and the rest of the world.

6. immigration
Unfortunately, high beef consumption and an ambitious agricultural plans have made thousands of lakes in Northern China disappear; there are only a few left. Illegal immigration into Pacific Russia has already begun.

9. Projected super powers in 2050:
Based on current growth rates of their economies,
the 4 most powerful countries in order of size of
economy and military strength would be:

1. China
2. India
3. USA
4 Japan

China and India together will have more than half of world's
population, industry, soldiers in military, scientists, engineers
and GDP.

11. This estimate seems far too low
This one has Russia at 122 million (UN projections). Population projections 40 or 50 years out are notoriously unreliable. Nobody predicted the North American baby boom, for example. Equally, nobody predicted the subsequent baby bust.
