Why do I not post regarding the raging conflict in Israel and Lebanon?
Is that I think Israel is right?
.... No, bombing civilians is never right.
Do I think that the Lebanese Gov't bears a HUGE chunk of responsibility for allowing Hezbolla to control what really goes on there when they should have asked for UN/Global help to get them OUT when they got Syria out?
Yes.
Also, Islamic fundementalism (Not the Islam of the Koran... yes I've read it)...... Hmmm I want more for my Muslim sisters...... (Don't hand me any crap about my Muslim sisters being bombed by Israel... I know that.... What no person here seems to remember is that Israeli women suffer from exploding buses and cafes ALL THE TIME..... I want more for them too)
I'm sure we all know about what Muslim men supposedly get if they are killed int he name of Allah.... Heaven 70 virgins..... yadda, yadda, yadda.
Do y'all know what the female suicide bombers get? That's right! The prettiest of one set of 70 virgins..... You get to be cattle again!

I've been to both parts of the levant.... Sorry if I still remember the conditions that I saw.

That's why I refuse to bet on any horse in this race.... Once again the men have screwed us all.

2. I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone.....
Explaining how I feel also explains why I haven't been posting about this..... From what I've read.... If I landed from another planet.... I would think people here hated Israel..... with NO exceptions.

7. I don't think that most here "hate" Israel. For me, I just refuse to
always view Israel as, simplistically, the "good guy" in all situations. Israel is not wrong on all fronts, but Israel is wrong on many fronts and the wholesale killing of Lebanese civilians is just the latest case of Israel being wrong.

Men are to blame for most of the trouble and misery in the world. Any idea that actions in this world are going to be punished or rewarded in a make-believe "next" world is ludicrous, counter-productive, and dangerous. But this male-dominated world seems to be unable to deal with the here and now, except in terms of the great "never-never". It is the Peter Pan syndrome gone wild and all of us are and will pay. Unfortunately, when the world is run rough-shod by demented Peter Pans, women will bear the brunt...

18. "hate Israel" is becoming a "meme" here on DU....why?
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 08:06 AM by KoKo01
Why do so some posters keep using "hate" and Israel in the same sentence. I've asked for posts on threads where any DU'er has said "I hate Israel." When someone does post a link in answer to my query the post never uses the word "hate" at all but is either questioning or rationaly "criticizing" Israel's actions in Lebanon.

If there have been any "hate posts" then I think the Mods took care of the poster given that we have trolls on there stirring up trouble constantly. I just don't know any regular DU'ers who are posting "hate" posts about Israel. The two links you gave didn't use the word "hate" either...

In answer to your post about Men ...I only have to think of Condi Rice to worry about women running things more equitably than men. The Borgia's of Italy also come to mind and some Congresswomen like Jeane Schmidt and Katherine Harris who would drive us into war and ruin. I don't know that women in power would be any different from men in the same circumstances.

4. Once again the men have screwed us all?
As opposed to the women who should have taught all of us men proper caring and nurturing values but somehow failed at being the primary moral guardians of our species?

12. But those fathers had mothers
And a mother should...

I'm not about to blame Adam or Eve--owing to their non-existence--so perhaps we should stop this here.

5. We can't get rid of Bush
How do expect the Lebanese get rid of Hezbolla? It's not like the US has done much to help them before this all flared up.

Rove wins again.

19. I hate war.
It is a useless, testosterone-laden exercise.

However, that said I will say that the anti-semitism on the left is rampant and ugly and if anything ever convinces me to just go in the house and shut the door on politics, that will do it. I have never been to the ME but I have been to Berkeley, California. Being a Boomie, I always think of Berkeley as the epicenter of "the movement" since the sixties. Back to the land, peace, free speech...good times! No more. I was there recently for the first time. That city is plastered with the vilest anti-semitic crap...posters, grafitti, signs. It was disgusting. There is NO denying that the extreme left is on the same page as Radical Muslims. They truly hate America (yes, I know that is a RW slogan but we need to face this clearly), Jews, and anything western. These are the folks that the undecided voters take a look at and run like hell.

Hate is hate, no matter who is doing the hating. There are some who would use the good intentions of the liberals in this country to camoflage their own hate agenda. And because we pride ourselves on the big tent we try to reach out. But we need to beware and recognize hate when we see it and call it like it is.

20. I do not hate Jews. I do not support Israel in most of its actions
regarding the Palestinians. I am on the Palestinians side of the conflict, not because I hate Jews, but because I think that the Palestinians have been treated unjustly. And, pragmatically, that injustice must be redressed before any real peace can be achieved. I think that the original establishment of Israel was wrong, but it is now a fact and must be acknowledged. Israel now has a right to exist as a nation, but so do the Palestinians.

Just because the Israelis are Jews does not make them above criticism. It doesn't make them immune from error or criminal activity. Siding against Israel on any issue does not make one "anti-semitic" - the Palestinians, after all, are Semites, as well.

I don't know what graffiti you saw or who you think wrote it or why, but calling the entire leftist movement in America "anti-semitic" is ridiculous - a large part of the leftist movement in the US has been and still is Jewish. If Democrats are going to make statements like yours, they should wait until after November; if every person who considered him/herself a "leftist" left the Party, the Democratic Party would collapse.

21. I personally see both sides of the Palestinian issue
and do not believe that everything Israel does is sterling. They are human.

I also consider myself part of the leftist movement. I was surprised recently when I took a little online survey that places your answers in the spectrum of left/right, just how far left I actually am.

But just like the extreme right has highjacked the Republicans, there is an element of EXTREME left who would like to do the same thing with us. If you have been to any protests in the past five years you have seen them.

Hate is hate, no matter who is doing the hating.
