We have an interesting Republican race in the 5th congressional district in Oklahoma, pitting Denise Bode (a womam who favors NO exceptions for abortion even when it comes to the mothers life), Mick Cornett former sportscaster turned mayor of OKC, and current Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin.

The commericals are something out of an SNL parody. Each canidate promises to protect Christian values and fight for a constitutional ban on gay marriage. They're abosolutely hilarious to watch. As if Christian values were under seige in the buckle of the bible belt anyway.

Anyway, as we watch these races play out I was curious as to other races and if those canidates are whoring Jesus like these clowns are.

3. She came to my house
The woman actually knocked on my door a week ago on a Saturday morning and left a hand signed note. Fortunately for her I sleep till noon or so on weekeneds and wasn't awake to answer the door. If I had been, I would have politely told her she was a loon, and then kicked her ass off my property.

2. I was just about to post about the 5th congressional race after reading

your subject line!

Cornett's ad:

"It took a lot of soul-searching and prayer before I decided to run for Congress. This was the most difficult decision I had ever made. But I believe we need to stand up for America and stand up for American values.

Marriage needs to be defined as a union between a man and a woman.

I believe that kids need to have the right to voluntarily pray in school.

I believe that burning the flag is a bad thing. Seems pretty simple to me."

His website has a 10-minute video narrated by the most honky-tonk sounding guy they could find, I'm sure, and it has about 30 seconds of Cornett invoking Reagan. I couldn't get beyond a few minutes of it, though.

ON EDIT: I can't remember who it is, but there's one guy whose ad keeps running who's also in some sort of "God-off": "A devout Christian, So and so led the fight to ban gay marriage." :eyes:

4. Probably Todd Hiett or Scott Pruitt
They're running for Lt. Gov., as if they would be in any position to effect change on a national level anyway. Lt. Gov. is more or less a figure head job in this state.

8. Hehehe
Incidentally, he used to wear a hair piece. He made a big deal about removing it on the air when he was still in TV news, doing at least what could loosely be considered honest work. What a fuckstick.

9. When are people going to get off of that lie
I believe that kids need to have the right to voluntarily pray in school.

Kids have never NOT had the right to voluntarily pray in school. They can pray their little heads off all day long if they want, so long as they do it silently.

11. When it stops working
Or when the pious clowns are eventually "affronted" by enough kids bowing to Mecca or mumbling Nam Myoho Renge Kyo to squall about religion polluting the classrooms.

12. I'd love to get ahold of a fundie e-mail list
I'd send them this:

http://www.turoks.net/Cabana/ChildrenPullOutYourChickens.htm

Then ask if they still advocate school prayer.

13. Cool
I've been told often enough that my atheism is a "faith", so I'd want in on that Fundie-jamming action too -- Dear Heavenly Father Who Isn't There: We are gathered once again, futilely talking to ourselves, in the hope that your magnificent Null and Voidness might notice that we are the bestest little atheists you ever saw...

5. Cagle and Reed in GA
Cagle mostly just mentions his Christianity and how he'll stand for "family values".

Reed, as you can expect, is a psycho.

7. This country will eventually split apart over culture
Honestly, the culture in places like Oklahoma no longer resembles the culture in places like New York or California.

10. I wish I could move
But my family lives here. I have a great job and a lot of friends in this state. Born and raised. I'm who I am thanks to independent thinking and a stiff upper lip. Though if I ever won powerball I'd be shopping for an acreage in the UK countryside so fast it would make a fundy's head spin like what's her name in the Excorcist.
