Drug dealers aren’t typically rocket scientists.

Then again, Missouri Highway Patrol Cpl. Tom Walley’s encounter with a pair of Kentucky men he stopped for speeding last summer didn’t turn out to be a typical drug bust.

Not after Walley opened the trunk of their 1990 Ford Thunderbird and a 4-foot rocket raised into an upright position.

Eight explosive charges at the base of the rocket were attached by wires to the cigarette lighter on the car’s dash. A flick of a switch from inside the car would have sent the rocket and its payload skyward.

1. Why the fuck didn't they USE it?

Seems to me that they could have avoided a drug arrest.

might get them into a bit more trouble than getting caught with meth?

And the reason that they didn't use the rocket is because the cops were already aware of it, thanks to an informant. Thus when they were doing the preliminaries up front, the cop reached in and disarmed the launching mechanism.

Apparently the meth rocket had indeed been successfully used before, and having egg all over their face, the Highway Patrol made a concerted effort to procure an informant and be able to take one of these down without launch.

Still and all, a pretty cool set up. Look for more of these hitting the road soon.

sounds like someone thought it was a good idea at the time. I've had a couple tweaker experiences and that was enough.
