15. The Dummy, Rummy, Hummy, and Wormy are on king row now...
with no serious smackdown in sight. If they keep control of congress in the fall, which I'm afraid they will, with Diebold in their corner, things will turn to 100% Doo-Doo fast! Gasoline will be $5.00 a gallon and America will continue to bleed jobs. There will be another war, in Iran this time and the only people hiring will be the Army. The Army will offer the kids a job they can't refuse, like they did during Vietnam.

If people think things can't get any worse, they are sadly mistaken.

2. Maybe if these scum were informed about how the Muslim/Arabic world
treats criminals (a la stealing, rape . . .) they might have thought twice . . .

Then again, they might not have left anyone alive to be witnesses . . .

:grr:

But they are still considered innocent until proven guilty.

5. No.
Isn't going beyond vindictive, brutal punishment of the wicked something we should be for?

To what purpose does letting these men suffer a terrible death serve? Causing a criminal to suffer can never be justified by the notion of vindictive punishment. Do you believe it will be a deterrent? Are you for the death penalty in the US?

6. This is about the Iraqi people...
not how we view things here in the US. We have to make this right in their eyes. These guys should be the last Americans soldiers in Iraq.

9. Their Actions Stain all of US.
We armed them, we clothed them, we allowed them to be sent into a foreign land, we allowed the military to train them. But, vindictive punishment is not going to "teach" anyone anything... Do you think Bush or Cheney or Rummy will pause before sending our troops into another far away land because these men are ripped to shreds by the families of those whom they wronged?

And the make right argument always falls flat on my ears, for I am reminded that those who issue the orders always will cover themselves and ensure a low ranking soldier suffers the consequences. Those in power will sacrifice these pawns to ensure the Iraqis know we are for Truth, Justice and all that stuff...

7. We need to do something to start repairing relations between
the Iraqis and us. This can start with a fair trial for those who are accused. If they are found guilty here, perhaps the Iraqi government can call for extradition. I fear that the capture and torture of those two soldiers last week was in retaliation for this crime, and fear that there will be more retaliatory acts unless we find the perpetrators and prosecute them.

8. I disagree.
They need to be tried in a military court, or a war crimes tribunal, along with ANYONE who has committed an atrocity during war, and that includes the lying war scum in the White House. This is the way to adhere to the rule of law. Unfortunately, it looks like two soldiers who did not participate in this were already handed over and took the punishment others likely deserved.

20. I agree, provided they did it.
First let's have a trial to determine guilt or innocence before anyone gets handed over.

DUers devolve into vengeful eye for an eye types.

No. We should not turn them over to the Iraqis. They should be court martialed. And frankly, because I am against the DP all the time, I hope that if they're convicted they get life not the DP.

Edited on Tue Jul-04-06 04:23 PM by Marr
If a bunch of soldiers left their base and went through downtown Frankfurt shooting children, would they be tried in a military court, or handed to German authorities?
