The MSM has yet to focus on and offer details about GOP disunity
Edited on Sun Jun-25-06 09:46 AM by ProSense
Why isn't there scrutiny and details about McCain's position that troop levels in Iraq be increased. Everyone else in the world (even if some of it is spin) is focused on withdrawal.

H.AMDT.1059 (A004)
Amends: H.R.5631
Sponsor: Rep King, Steve (offered 6/20/2006)

An amendment numbered 1 printed in the Congressional Record to strike section 9012 (relating to a basing rights agreement between the United States and Iraq).

STATUS:

6/20/2006 3:18pm:
Amendment (A004) offered by Mr. King (IA). (consideration: CR H4270-4271; text: CR H4270)
6/20/2006 6:32pm:
On agreeing to the King (IA) amendment (A004) Failed by recorded vote: 50 - 376 (Roll no. 296).

What's this about? Was this even covered by the MSM? Forty-seven Republicans voted to strip "no permanent basing" language from the bill, against the majority of the House GOP (180), yet no analysis as to why or scrutiny as to the cause of this deep division.

Despite the signs and being down in the polls, the MSM offers absolutely no clues about GOP tension. If it's acceptable for members within a party to disagree, why all the scrutiny and inside details (they're even quoting Republicans as the source of some of this information) about the Democrats?

3. the OP is inaccurate
the LA Times recently ran a big article on how the repubs are thwarting the bush immigration plan, and regularly runs articles about dissension in repub circles.

kinda doubt the LAT is the only outfit doing this.

Bush's stance on immigration is vague at best, and the Republicans are attacking Bush on those elements that are easy to oppose him on. It gives them an easy out to say they are not rubber stamp Republicans, and Bush can continue being vague. The MSM plays this up to the hilt.

Schwarzenegger denies Bush troop request

By AARON C. DAVIS, Associated Press Writer

Snip...

California has committed to putting 1,000 troops on the border by July 31 and has 250 there already.

Schwarzenegger initially criticized the administration's plan to deploy troops to the border, saying it was the wrong approach to dealing with illegal immigration.

The governor finally relented after the Pentagon signed a document promising to pay for the entire mission, a cost that could top $1.4 billion nationally.

Schwarzenegger also wanted the Bush administration to commit to a firm end date. It did not, but Schwarzenegger signed an executive order saying he would not authorize the deployment beyond the end of 2008.

I've read plenty of LA times articles the "fair and balanced" type that report on the Iraq quagmire while offering quotes from troops and others about wanting to stay the course.

How many Sunday morning talk shows have you seen the pundits grilling Hagel on McCain's stance or Lugar on McCain's stance?

5. Maybe next Sunday, Wolf Blitzer or Tim Russert
can dedicate an entire segment to the great GOP immigration divide (lay it all out) and invite Bill Frist and Arlen Specter on to debate their positions. Better yet, invite Bill Frist and John McCain to the debate.
