The Levin-Reed and Kerry-Feingold amendments are like night and day!
During the debate last night Kerry reiterated and Warner clarified in depth that Kerry's plan would become law (binding), and that what Levin-Reed is offering is a non-binding sense of the Senate resolution. That's a huge difference! It's the difference between holding Bush accountable by force of law and giving him the option (because it's not legally binding) to stay the course!

1. Do the Dems control the Senate now?
We seem to be acting like we have a majority.

2. I think most of us understand that. It would have been better to vote
for Kerry-Feingold, but let at least hope that nobody else than Lieberman will vote against Levin, because, even if it is toothless, it at least talks about troop withdrawal.

3. they have one thing in common, both had no chance to pass
The GOP is unified. So why not more support for the Kerry/Feingold one?

4. Another thing in common: Neither would force Bush to do anything...
If Kerry/Feingold had actually passed the Senate and the House, Bush would've vetoed it.

7. In this case, we can just sit and watch. I guess it is what some think.

8. If it passed and was vetoed, a veto can be overridden! Hypotheticals n/t

9. Sure, the whole thing's hypothetical anyway...
though I would point out that, even if we controlled Congress by the same amount that the GOP currently does, there's no way we could override a veto.

But, in any case, you're right. This is purely hypothetical. The Dems knew it wouldn't pass, and so they should have taken the most principled stand they could.

6. Afraid to be labelled cut and run, though they will anyway.
What some dont seem to understand is that they will be smeared whatever they say.
