Florida DU'ers: Davis or Smith?
Im thinking Davis, mostly because I am a big Bob Grahm fan and I remember Rod Smith when he was in Gainesville as SA. Hes was one scummy son of a bitch. The last repub I voted for was his opponent for SA.

3. Gov.
Jim Davis is a State Sen, he looks like he might win the nomination. They have to go against Ol Charlie Christ who is fairly popular and will get the Freepers out in droves to vote for him.

4. OK I'm a Florida DUer
who is fairly new to the state. I am not a registered Dem so can't vote in the primary. But you made a statement that I'm curious about - Is Davis Bob Grahm like - and in what way because for the most part I like Bob Grahm a lot. So any info you can give me would be appreciated.

Something has got to be done in this state about insurance and property taxes or we'll all have to flee to other states - its getting out of hand - My homeowner's insurance has gone from about $1,000 the first year I was here to $3,000 on my second anniversary....that is beyond ridiculous huricanes or not.

5. True
I kinda miss Sen Nelson as Insurance Commissioner, but hes doing a great job in Wash now. Davis is a HUGE Education guy. That is really like his no 1,2,and 3 things. He wrote all of the education legislation before Jeb and the FCAT/One Florida Debacle undid it. He is against offshore drilling.

Hes written a hurricane policyholders bill of rights http://images1.istandfor.com/images/FE/chain192siteType8/site149/client/billofrights.pdf

Labor supports him

Hes also got a hard-on for getting broadband access to rural florida.

Thats all I got so far.

7. Senator Nelson is not doing a great job in Washington. He has
voted against the interests of his supposed constituency far too many times. The vote for the new bankruptsy bill is just one example. He has voted for the interests of big business far too many times when the vote in question hurts the average Floridian and the average American.

Regarding the governor's race, Charlie Christ has already started advertising BIG. I haven't heard a peep out of Smith or Davis.

have dared to run against him. He must be doing something right.

17. Well he's not doing something right for me
Nelson is one of the spineless Dems - he's not representing me and I'm not going to vote for him. Actually going to write in my own name. I called his office several times on several issues and most of the time he has come out on the wrong side for me. One time I asked to get a call back on Iran - and they couldn't be bothered - so I can't be bothered with voting for him.

But does it really matter in FL who the hell we vote for.....

21. A DUer actually filed to run against Nelson, but
chickened out when he realized what an uphill battle it would be to take on someone so popular with Democrats.

13. Bob Graham endorsed Davis
Senator Bob Graham:
"Jim Davis has what it takes to be a great governor – a hardworking commitment to serving people, a maturity beyond his years, a fearless sense of the problems we face and a vision of the enormous potential we have. Jim Davis has the independence and integrity Floridians expect from their leaders, and a record of bringing people together from all political backgrounds and all parts of the state to get things done. Jim Davis can do job one – he can win. And he can do the job when he becomes Governor because he has integrity that is second to none. He will be able to lead because people throughout Florida can trust his word."

6. Your comments about Smith are totally unfounded
Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 01:38 AM by BeachBuckeye
Are you another of the operatives working for the Davis campaign who are polluting the net with this type of propaganda?
I'll ask you to back up what you said about Smith. I'll also ask you to defend Davis's co-sponsoring and voting for the bankruptcy bill which is an affront to Democrats everywhere.

Davis is starting to duck debates with Smith and if you've seen them on stage together its easy to understand why. Davis acts like the proverbial whore in church. He couldn't hold his own in a debate with Dan Quayle.

And you might want to know that Davis is NOT a State Senator but a U.S. Congressman, a congressman with one of the worst attendance records in the House. He missed more votes than almost anyone else last year. Democrats all over Florida are confounded as to why Bob Graham endorsed Davis. If you want to guarantee a victory for Charlie Crist in the fall election then go ahead and give Davis the Democratic nomination.

9. Yeah, I am working for the Davis campaign
Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 12:03 PM by Sailor for Warner
I dont even have time to cook my poor wife dinner at night, forget be a paid operative in a campaign. Yeah I noticed he was a US Rep when I went to his website. He was a state Senator at I believe, and that is probably what I remember him from. Christ is one of the shadiest politicians in Florida, but if he keeps advertising the way he has I dont see either Davis or Smith beating him, Floridian voters are not the most poitically astute constituency overall (Jeb twice). I am not campaigning for Davis, yes I have a pre-made dislike for Rod Smith and I also dont know that much about Davis but when one of the most respected politicians in FL endorses him (Graham) I was inclined to lean towards him. I take it you are working for the Smith Campaign? Tell me a little bit about his platform.

The latest thing Ive heard from my friends still in Gainesville is that Rod Smith might be caught up in some sort of Land deal.

The incident that stands out the most from my time in Gainesville was him not prosecuting Delta Chi frat boys who sexually assaulted a woman and videotaped it. That got him into some shit with NOW nad such. Apparently that incident was just the tip of the iceberg and alot of SA and Rape cases were getting swept under by his office. But that was a long time ago and far far away.

But hey, at least, i think, he is for the Death Penalty. He did put Rolling on Death Row, hes still there.

10. I don't work for Smith
I only want the truth to be told about each of them. The voters can then fairly decide.

15. Well you accused me of being a Paid Misinformer
For Davis, I just thought Id ask. I am only saying the things I recall from my time in Gainesville and what I am hearing now. I found a few thing corroborating the land deal thing on the net but I am willing to chalk that up to dirty campaigning by ol' Charlie Grapski. Plus, from what I do know of Smith, he would never jump into bed with Sherrif Oelrich on anything.

11. I lean toward Smith
I live in Alachua County and I never perceived him to be 'scummy'. Curious why you say that? I also know people who worked directly with him at the State's Attorney General's office and they love him.

14. I knew some people that worked at the Alligator and some
people who worked in GPD amd ACSO. They always had nothing good to say about him. Ive only met him once. From what ive been reading, I dont much care for his No 1 rating by the NRA. Or what would seem to be a pretty lackluster record on gay marriage but Ill take whoever has a chance of beating that scuzzball Christ.

25. They both better start some ads soon
or forget either one of them winning. I have seen one Davis bumber sticker so far. At the moment its Davis for us. Charlie Grist has a lot of momentum right now, and his ad runs daily.
