Any thoughts about the PBS special "The Dark Side"?
this special portrays Cheney as the smoking gun. All of this was predisposed and predetermined

Any thoughts?

IMHO

Cheney started the wheels rolling with the Iraq war.

1. And he kept those wheels rolling until he had his war.
And it has been the biggest foreign policy blunder since Vietnam.

You can't watch The Dark Side and not come away with a deep and abiding hatred of Cheney, Rumsfeld, Libby, Tenet, Rice and Powell.

3. Tragically, what was portrayed in the Frontline piece is only a part.
The Frontline piece is only a very small glimpse into what has happened to America. This group seems to have as it's goal the restructuring of our political system to something far from a democracy.

5. Vinnie. That's exactly what I got out of it.
Like they're preparing us for a really Dark Side.

You know what got me the most, besides cursing many of them, was the fact some actually smiled while I was thinking of all the children blown to bits all on LIES!

They ripped Tenet apart. Almost felt sorry for him. I wanted to hear "Downing Street Memos," "Brewster Jennings," and "Valerie Plame," but no, More Pig ROVE!

Colin Powell was more then lied to. My impression: Bush is Mr. Bunny-Pants, free and clear, oh, so innocent. Cheenee - the man, yeah taking all the blows. :sarcasm:

Just glad my remote survived.

17. In this piece
Tenet was trying to save us from the inevitable, WAR!!!

Powell was against it too!! Ever wonder why he resgined from his post?

Connect the dots, this is truly a reason for impeachment, starting with Cheney, just like Agnew.

I So smell a "Nixon" aftermath!!

28. That's How I felt About It.
I felt sorry for Tenet, and admirable for Powell.

Cheney is seriously, and most significantly evil. And here's hoping your nose knows. Between the eerie background music, and my mind filling-in all the blanks left out for reasons I assume are in breaking it to the public (spoon-feeding, so to speak) the hair on my arms was literally standing-up.

Unsure what emotion was the strongest. My anger knowing Cheney's darkness is so murderous or the fact a lot was left out. Really wish they had mentioned how many CIA agents were lost (Brewster Jennings), and all the children in Iraq whom have died for this sick, un-noble cause. And the absolute worse. It was done to begin with (told to us) in the name of the victims of 9/11.

If a Nixon aftermath does not come out of this, my and your country is gone forever.

29. I think Powell is a tragic figure in this.
He opposed them internally, and stayed because he knew there was nobody in the room but him not controlled by Cheney. Cheney got rid of him after the election. Cheney and Rummy didn't want ANY dissidents in the corridors of power. Tenet was ousted. A bloodbath at the CIA. Cheney stands unopposed.

Except for the people -- and, hopefully, Patrick Fitzgerald.

George W. Bush ---- a true dummy getting his ego fed by trusting the wrong people.

43. the piece stated Powell was NOT informed about the debunking of some
of the intel he used in his UN speech; however, it didn't explain why his own state dept. didn't clue him into Darth's deliberately faulty intel. There had to be people at State talking to CIA people who knew what was really going on. :eyes:

51. Doesn't matter. He's still covering for them.
If Powell had used his stature to expose what was happening (or what HAD happened, if he couldn't do it at the time), Cheney & Co. would have been snapped like a pile of twigs. But, as people who know him better than I have said, Powell is constitutionally unable to buck the system, it's not in his character. Apparently even when "the system" itself is being hijacked.

So many good people are speaking out, writing books, giving interviews... and yet I cannot see the end of this miserable dark chapter in our nation's history.

If the republic survives, if we are still a democracy when our children and grandchildren are ready to vote, then historians will surely agree that this was our darkest and most dangerous hour, when we came within a handsbreadth of losing our soul as a nation.

This episode of Frontline is an excellent summary of events and I hope a lot of people watched it.

I already new the storyline - but having it all brought together in one timeline complete with interviews was just so disturbing.

Will it make a difference? I doubt it. Nothing seems to make a difference. This adm. is simply out for itself with no regard for anyone or anything. And these egomaniacal jerks who run things are just really disturbed. The damage they have done is not even fully knowable.

We need to just revolt and run them all out of office on a rail. But how do we do that?

36. Watching it now - great.
Cheney conspired to wage aggressive war ... he is clearly open to war crimes charges just on the basis of the evidence and testimony presented in this program.

And ... I just saw the part where David Kay asked (in my words) "Where the hell was the National Security Advisor? Condi Rice?" Kay said it was her job to question the thin evidence for war presented by George Tenet. But everything was allowed to just "slide".

This is a pretty good presentation ... it is damning.

And it is interesting how Bush, himself, is barely a player and is mostly just a puppet in the drama between Cheney and the CIA.

It makes me sick.

For someone really politically aware, did you all find that any of this was new information, like things that weren't covered in Richard Clarke's book? Because I really tried to watch this, but I only lasted 5 minutes. Was it more geared for people who don't follow this stuff?

46. everybody has signed a save PBS funding petition?

Dear MoveOn member,

You are part of a national public outcry over the Bush administration's stunning effort to slash NPR and PBS funding. More than 1.6 million people have signed the petition to save public broadcasting, making it one of the largest petitions ever.

Your voice helped pressure the House of Representatives to restore some of the funding this week. But the House committee still agreed to make massive cuts to children's programs like "Sesame Street." Even worse, House Republicans voted to eliminate all funding for NPR and PBS in two years.1

Congress needs to see the public is watching and spreading the word. Can you take a moment to write a letter to the editor of your local paper? Our online tool makes it easy—just click here:

http://civic.moveon.org/lte/?zip=87123&campaign_id=57&id=8062-4066565-Ifg1BiT0O9uVch_CpwGbCQ&t=2

The opinion pages are the most popular section in the newspaper. Congressional staff read the letters to the editor to gauge public opinion. If they see a flood of worried letters, they'll realize the strength of public support for NPR and PBS.

We've made it easy by providing talking points and facts to include in your letter. But you don't have to be an expert. The most important thing is to speak from your heart about why you support NPR and PBS.

Writing a letter only takes a few minutes. Click here to get started:

http://civic.moveon.org/lte/?zip=87123&campaign_id=57&id=8062-4066565-Ifg1BiT0O9uVch_CpwGbCQ&t=3

Thank you for all you do.
