Bush says Plame investigation is over
I can't believe that this has not gotten more attention and discussion in the blogs.

(snip)

On Air Force One flying back from a surprise trip to Iraq, Bush said of the decision: 'It's a chapter that has ended. Fitzgerald is a very thorough person. I think he's conducted his investigation in a dignified way. And he's ended his investigation.' "

Read the very thoughtful analysis by Citizen Spook

1. Bush's known for saying very incomplete things
It seems the investigation into Rove's activities are done. Whether the investigation is completely done or not, dunno. I wouldn't trust Bush's understanding of the law at face value. He has a thick filter.

and if we was willing to let Rove off the hook, it can only be because he's got bigger fish in his sights--present company included...

3. isn't that verboten?
For the POTUS to comment on the progress of a case where the prosecutor has not issued a statement saying that the case is closed? Where is all their precious principle of not commenting on ongoing investigations now? Out the window!

Oh, it's not ongoing? Then show us the letter from Fitzgerald to Luskin.

As far as the press is concerned, I really think they are happy to not have to risk angering Rove by talking about his troubles. One news reader used the word "welcome" regarding the alleged end of the investigation.

6. If that's the case...
There were many, many question during the press roundups that were answered with, "we cannot comment on an ongoing investigation". Since the Preznit said the investigation is now over, I'd like to hear those questions asked again and hear answers given this time...

After all, the investigation is no longer 'ongoing'...

So, even though Rove won't be indicted, he was certainly involved in the leaks... are you going to FIRE HIM LIKE YOU PROMISED?

Bring your certitude to the mikes. Hold a press conference.

Surely as the CIC you must feel a need to get this behind you and get on with the nation's bid'ness.......

that when asked if the investigation is still ongoing, Fitz's office now gives an answer of "No comment". I don't think that the status of the investigation is confidential, is it? I get the feeling that there is something very strange going on.

is someone leaked and a big giant clamp was put on. No one in the know is saying shit anymore,

If the investigation was over, I am sure Fitzgerald would make that announcement, so that the WH could move on. The only thing I've heard is that Libby has another date in court, in August I believe.

21. Murray Waas hasn't commented on this either. And, at the Kos Convention
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 12:42 PM by KoKo01
Joe Wilson and others commended him as THE reporter for Plame investigation.

Maybe Murray took a vacation after his Las Vegas trip... there's nothing new up on his site.

It's strangely quiet since Rove was indicted except for the jabbering from Joe DeGenova in Newsday about the possibility of pardons and Bush's comments that the Rove investigation was over.

So...what are we to think? Truth Out stands by it's story for the mainpart and insist their sources were trusted.

So...investigation is either ongoing or not. Shouldn't "We the People" have an answer from Fitz on this? We do pay his salary and I feel he's an honorable man. I don't see what kind of "deal" could have been cut with the Bushies or Rove that would stop him from saying whether his investigation has ended.

I still think the MSM heard from their own buzz that Rove was going to be indicted given Chris Matthews was hyping the possibility of big news about Rove on Imus the Friday that "TO" announced that Rove had sealed indictment. I don't think that GE/MSNBC/NBC would have been putting everything in "TO's" basket for news about Rove. They obviously heard something from their own sources. Unless they were tricked by the same sources as "TO" in some Rovian counterplay of disinfo designed to spring a surprise.

It's really very bizarre...the whole thing. And, lots of people are being hurt by this.

25. Something is amiss
Bush says investigation is over. Luskin declares Fitz advised him (how we do not know) that Rove is not going to be indicted. Luskin provides no documentation to support this claim. Samborn now says no comment when asked about status of investigation (when before he said it was still on-going). Truthout still stands by its sources who claim that in fact Rove was indicted. And what to make of the sealed v sealed case reference?
This whole frikkin story just doesn't add up.

For what it is worth. And that ain't much. I can't believe that Fitz, who is a very dedicated career prosecutor folded his tent. If one can believe The Chimp ( and that could be a real stretch) and the investigation is ended, it could only happen if the DOJ terminated it, meaning someone more powerful than Fitz. That had to be none other than political hack Gonzales on orders from up top. The fact that the case is sealed prevents Fitz from commenting. This is a very convenient way to keep the lid on this thing.

But just to add a little intrigue to the saga, what would happen if Rove really was indicted and the DOJ refused to sign the indictment? Could we have a runaway Grand Jury? Citizen Spook is going to address the issue of Presentment in an upcoming blog. We all should pay attention.

36. CS ignores existing case law: no indictment results if US attny doesn't
sign. Case law, which has not been overturned by the SCOTUS, has rendered presentment issue moot. A Fed grand jury cannot render charges that result in an indictment without the approval/signature of the prosecutor. The court will not proceed on the grand jury's action and will not consider it a valid indictment. No indictment would result.

the Bush Administration and are guilty of treason? Have you read his assertions, inspired by that Rove cutout Clifford May, that Wilson and David Corn are the ones who outed Valerie Plame?

this case,) the MSM would have run with it. Bush is a moron, and has misspoken again and they know it. That is why it is ignored. And CS observation regarding why Bush wouldn't pardon Libby is ludicrous! Of course he will pardon him and if anyone thinks a reporter will ask him about his earlier praise for Fitz will deter him has forgotten about Brownie. Bush praises everyone. It is meaningless and he certainly won't be perturbed by being caught in a contradiction as he is a living contradiction himself! If it didn't bother him to lie about WMD can you seriously believe he even wonders about a contradiction regarding Fitz? Please.

Maybe the Bu$h Family Evil Empire issued real 'life endangering' to Fitz and, knowing what these horrible criminals are capable of... Fitz 'decided' he wants to 'go on with his life' like in 'just continue to be alive' (??). Hence the "it's over" (like JFK, RFK, and all, were 'over').
