I think Andy Rooney was giving the USA a warning tonight.
After showing clips of how much more power our military has than any other in the world or in history, he ended with a quote from President Eisenower in his farewell speech:

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist."

1. That's because he gives a damn about his country.
I might not always agree with the old coot, but he is a true American.

6. anyone see that bogus rw email with rooney?
it purports to credit rooney with saying all this rw borderline racist crap - but rooney never said any of it.

a rw friend of mine sent it to me and i shot it down but then he said "well i still believe in that stuff" to which i replied "that's fine - but why do the author's feel the need to lie about it's origins?"

7. That's a good question
That always becomes the first line of defense after somebody posts the inevitable Snopes link.
Like the fake "Robin Williams" letter. Why the fake origin? And why do the fakes almost always have a right-wing slant? (Well, at least that last question is easy enough to answer)
