Let’s All Journey to the Edge of the Memory Hole!
Hey folks. If you’re anything like me (and God help you if you are), then you only have room in your brain for a limited number of administration scandals before they disappear down Ye Olde Memory Hole.

Truth be told, my cranial cup can only hold so much water(gate) (et al) before it runneth over. And, try though I may to negotiate the turbulent torrents of the current political corruption climate, I just can’t seem to keep up with this administration’s s(t)inking ship as it races forth with ever more and more SPH (Scandals per Hour).

I’ve even seen discussion that the current regime increases its SPH on purpose so we get tired and/or can’t keep track of it all.

So that’s why I thought it might be fun and/or instructive (you decide!) to start a thread in which we can revive, re-examine and/or update some of those nagging memories we all have, clinging to the back of our brains at the cusp our Remembrance Drains. Memories that, if they fall, might never be recalled by the FOIA (or even the most thorough search of websites, which themselves might soon be scrubbed even cleaner than our very own noggins).

So if you have any thought that begins, “Hey – whatever happened to…”, post it here so we can get reacquainted with whatever TPTB want us to forget. OK?

I’ll start. This morning, I caught myself thinking, “Hmmm – I wonder what’s the latest on good ol’ Kyle “Dusty” Foggo?” (I know this is a fairly recent scandal, btw, but it’s amazing how quickly they seem to disappear).

You remember Dusty, right? The erstwhile CIA #3 who resigned shortly after Porter Goss? The one who had his house raided by almost every federal intelligence agency we have? The one who left amidst a scandalous swirl of accusations involving poker and hookers and bribes (oh my!). At the Watergate hotel, no less?

Yeah, THAT Dusty.

Well, I did a Google news search on him (and searched the DU Research Forum) and the only “recent” Dusty news I could find occurred on June 13th, when his lawyer William G Hundley (former mobster prosecutor) died at age 80.

So has anyone heard anything more recent about ol’ Dusty? If so, please dish! If not – let’s just sure we keep him in our sights! And either way, ya got any items of your own you want to rescue from the precipice of your own (or the collective) Memory Hole?

1. Funny you should mention that........
I just got off the phone with Senator Specters office in regard to the 750 signing statements. I remember that he made some sort of statement after the boston globe article that he was going to have hearings on this issue. I call once a week to see if anything has been scheduled yet. I get no real answers. I always point out that as head of the judiciary committee, Mr. Specter is the only one who can hold this administration to account. I always demand action only to be told that they will pass along the message. It amazes me how deep that memory hole goes.

Sorry no info on Dusty but I'll keep an eye out.

3. Yes - it seems like we spend a lot of time waiting for hearings
And a lot of them seem promised by Specter...

But, now that you mention it, I also wonder about the outcome/status of some of the civil suits that were filed in Ohio (and elsewhere) addressing the numerous election illegalities of 2004? Anybody know? I'll have check the research forum. So many questions, so little time...

Anyway, you're definitely right: the memory hole gets so deep, some days it seems like a black hole (especially with MY memory!)

2. "GOP Leaders Urge Probe in Prisons Leak"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/08/AR2005110800764.html

<snip>
"Congress's top Republican leaders yesterday demanded an immediate joint House and Senate investigation into the disclosure of classified information to The Washington Post that detailed a web of secret prisons being used to house and interrogate terrorism suspects."
<snip>

Late last year Republicans were going around hyperventilating about this and saying national security had been compromised. There had to be legal accountability, possible jail time etc. etc. What happened?

Did they find out a Republican was guilty? It seems the issue became not quite so vital to national security after all because that was the last I heard of it.

:shrug:

4. I'm not sure about that, but I do seem to recall that the NSA spy hearings
went nowhere. What a sham. It can be such a endless-seeming struggle, waiting what seems like forever for the scales of justice to shift.
