One more from John K. tonight.
Dear Lonestarnot:

Last night fellow veteran Jim Webb became the Democratic nominee, ready to take on George Allen in November, because you stepped up to the challenge.

Jim Webb was born fighting, and yesterday he won another tough fight in Virginia. For Jim Webb, Virginia, and Democrats all across America this was a great victory. But for you -- for veterans in Virginia and across the country -- who supported Jim, it was an especially sweet and historic victory. Thank you very much for making an important difference.

Our fellow veteran Jim Webb has traveled a path of service and sacrifice since Vietnam. Jim is a decorated war hero, serving as a company commander in Vietnam. He was awarded the Navy Cross, the Silver Star Medal, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts. He's a good American, and his brother veterans stood proudly with him. Together we endorsed his courage and his character. And together we made it clear that no matter what judgments we made about past wars, we veterans never confuse the war with the warrior -- we stand together, united by our common bond of service to country.

Jim is going to make one outstanding Senator. He has a history of service to our fellow veterans, including working as counsel to the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs. He will serve Virginia in the Senate with the same courage and character that marked his service in Vietnam. Senator Jim Webb will settle for nothing less than the right policy for our troops, including his son Jimmy who will be deployed to Iraq in the fall. And he'll be the voice Virginia's families need, championing American jobs, access to health care, energy independence, and real national security.

Jim's victory yesterday and his campaign against George Allen beginning today are key to our efforts to take back the Senate and bring change to Republican-run Washington. Together we can help Jim win in November. At Keeping America's Promise, my political action committee, we're going to continue to work hard and marshal resources to help elect Jim and other Democratic candidates across the country. And we will continue to focus on supporting strong veterans running for office.

Thank you again for your continued support and for helping your brother veteran who is now on his way to becoming the new Senator from Virginia.

Sincerely,

John Kerry
